Mohd Saquib shares why he opted BSc Industrial Chemistry as his course and what he gained from his college life at Aligarh Muslim University.

Aligarh Muslim University

In Class 11th and 12th I chose Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) subjects as I wanted to do MBBS and become a doctor. I did not go for any coaching in my Class 12th and did self-study in my home town, Jaunpur, UP.

After successfully completing Class 12th with appreciable 84.6% I had my first attempt to AIPMT (All India Pre Medical Test). Due to lack of good preparation I did not get selected in the first go and decided to go for medical preparation taking two years of drop. I prepared myself for pre-medical tests for two years from an institute in Kanpur, UP but unfortunately failed to crack the exam. As I did not want to drop another year so in my last attempt I registered myself for BSc in AMU (Aligarh Muslim University) with the intention of pursuing MBA after completing graduation. I got selected in AMU Entrance Exam for BSc with rank 149 and chose BSc Industrial Chemistry as it was one of the best UG courses that AMU offered. Also, the course had exposure to the outside world so I thought it to be a good combination for MBA. Currently, I am also thinking of taking TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) to go abroad and grab better career opportunities.

How I cracked college admission

To secure admission in BSc Industrial Chemistry at Aligarh Muslim University I gave all-India level entrance test organized by the varsity at many centers all around the country. Aligarh Muslim University conducts a common exam for all its BSc courses (except BSc Agriculture for which a separate departmental exam is conducted). The examination contains multiple choice based questions consisting of four sections (English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology). There are total 100 questions (25 in English, 25 in Physics, 25 in Chemistry and 25 in Biology or Mathematics) over which two hours’ time period is given. The syllabus for the exam is same as that of Class 11th and 12th. As I was a pre-medical test aspiring student BSc exam was not a tough job for me as I had good preparation of two years. I got 149 rank in the BSc entrance test and hence got chance to opt any of the BSc courses that I desired. I had already done research on BSc Industrial Chemistry so I opted it as my core subject. The exam is conducted at the end of April and result in announced in the first week of July, two weeks later from which the counselling is held AMU campus.

My college life

My college time is the time when I get to enjoy with friends and learn new things. The college time in AMU is from 8’o clock in the morning to 5’o clock of the evening. All the classes are held between these times only. Generally, I have five classes a day (each class of 50 minutes) which increase when I have lab periods. So usually I get a lot of free time for myself. In these free hours I love reading novels as they improve one’s English and enhance knowledge (if the novel belongs to some good author). Also, I have a decent friend’s circle which is a benefitting and crucial factor for successful future as we usually have a lot of group discussions over things going on in the world due to which we get to know what’s happening around the globe and also get to know about the opinions of people.

I am also active with the events which are held in the campus very often. My role in those events is sometimes as a participant, sometimes as a volunteer and sometimes as an intern. This is the benefit of a central university that it always conducts some event for students in which they get to listen to great experienced personalities and learn a lot about both general life as well as professional life and also get experience based upon their role of participation. Also, participating in these events gives us certificates which add a lot of value to our curriculum vitae. I also spend time in studying for MBA entrance exams (solving Reasoning, Basic Mathematics and Verbal questions).

AMU has a world famous library “Maulana Azad Library” which has brightened the career of thousands of students since ages. This library is a blessing for poor and middle class family students who find all the books they need. I also spend a lot of time in the library and read subject-related books and also other books to explore more.

AMU also provides superb facilities for sports and other extracurricular activities (singing, poetry, playing instruments, drama and many more). I love to stay fit and hence hit the gym quite punctually.
