NEST 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Before filling the NEST application form, students must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria. Otherwise, their candidature may get cancelled at the time of the NEST counselling or admission process.
- Candidates should have cleared Class 12 Board exam or equivalent in 2024 or 2025.
- Those who will be appearing for the Class 12 Board exam or equivalent in 2026, will be eligible for NEST 2026, provided they fulfil other eligibility criteria.
- Candidates must have studied at least three subjects between Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics in Class 11 and Class 12.
- Applicants must secure at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in the Class 12 examination from any recognised Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Divyangjan or Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates, the minimum requirement is 55 per cent.
- There is no age limit.

Candidates have to attempt minimum three sections out of four, among Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Physics and Chemistry are compulsory sections. Biology and Mathematics are optional. One out of the two subjects have to be attempted.

NEST or the National Entrance Screening Test, is conducted every year for all those students who want to get admission to Integrated MSc programmes. There are two institutions where NEST students want to get admission, one is the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, and the second institution is Mumbai University - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS).
According to the NEST 2026 exam pattern, it is a computer-based test of three hours duration, scheduled from 2 PM to 5 PM.
