Candidates need to pass Class 12 (Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology as an optional subject) with at least 75% aggregate to apply for NIT Durgapur BTech admission. IISc Bangalore conducted the GATE 2024 exam on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024. The GATE 2024 application form was released on 24th August 2024 on the official website at gate.iisc.ac.in. The organising institute for GATE 2024 was IISc Bangalore. The exam was conducted online as a computer-based test for 29 papers. Candidates had to solve 65 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours). Students wishing to apply for hostel have to pay an additional amount. NIT Durgapur does have mess service for which students need to pay a separate charge. Candidates need to pass GATE to get a seat in NIT Durgapur M.Tech programme. NITD offers seats under Sponsored and Self-Sponsored Category. After qualifying GATE, candidates are required to come for CCMT Counselling.

GATE cutoffs are released online, aspirants with score equal or above cutoff, become eligible for CCMT Counselling. Shortlisted candidates need to register for CCMT Counselling to become eligible for seat allotment. Selected aspirants are required to confirm their seat by paying the course fee.

NTA announced JEE Main 2024 dates. NTA coducted the JEE Main 2024 exam in two sessions. In total, NIT Durgapur has 19 seats for the Integrated (BSc + MSc) course. The institute offers an Integrated MSc in Chemistry programme. The seats for these programme are filled based on the JEE Main ranks, followed by the JoSAA/CSAB counselling. NIT Durgapur admission to BTech is based on JEE Main score. Candidates are selected through their past academic scores and rank obtained in JEE Main exam. After the commencement of all the selection rounds, candidates have to register for JoSAA Counselling process. The final seat allotment is done through JoSAA Counselling process. Further, if seats remain unfilled, then the vacant seats are filled with CSAB Counselling.

Admission to the NIT Durgapur's Integrated BSc + MSc course is based on the ranks secured by the applicants in JEE (Main). In 2024, the closing rank at which the institute provided admission to its Integrated MSc course was 76,525. This was the last rank at which the admission was provided to the General-All India category candidates. In 2023, the required cut-off was 86,705. Hence, candidates aspiring to pursue the Integrated MSc course of NIT Durgapur must aim to secure a rank better than the previous-year cut-off to secure a seat.

To be eligible for NIT Durgapur MBA admission, students need to be graduated in any stream or in the final year of graduation with at least 60% aggregate. IIT JAM 2026 examination is scheduled to be conducted on February 15, 2026. The examination will be held in 2 sessions. IIT Madras, the examination conducting body will be organizing the exam at the JAM 2026 exam centres across the nation.

IIT JAM is a joint entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to M.Sc., Ph.D., and other postgraduate programs in Science and its allied subjects. It is one of the most popular entrance exams for Science students in India 

NIT Durgapur does not provide a BSc programme, but an Integrated BSc + MSc programme in Chemistry. The duration of the programme is five years. It leads to a dual-degree, i.e. a BSc and an MSc degree in Chemistry. NITD has an intake of 19 students for the five-year programme. Admission to the programme is based on JEE (Main) ranks and seats are allocated through JoSAA/CSAB counselling.
