M.Tech. in Industrial Biotechnology - Batch of 2020
3.8
What a great college! I recommend every student to study here.
Placements: The placement cell of Sastra University is great. Overall, 95 percent of students get job opportunities here. Students from UG are eligible for campus placement from their 7th semester, and the Post Graduate students are eligible from their 4th semester. Many companies like Accenture, IBM, Cognizant, Genpact, and HSBC visit our college campus. The highest package was 38 LPA, and the average is around 4-8 LPA.
Infrastructure: The hostel rooms are spacious, and they are assigned based on seniority. There are 4-sharing, 3-sharing, double-sharing, and single-occupancy rooms available. The hostel buildings are brand new, and the restrooms are fully automated. The hostel is in excellent condition. The hostel also has a high-speed Wi-Fi connection. The mess food is delicious, and the menu is chosen by our representative after consultation with the students. The hostel is equipped with a variety of basic facilities and equipment to ensure students' comfort.
Faculty: Our course curriculum is designed in a very innovative and subtle way. It includes all the aspects a Master's student has to know. The faculty here is well qualified, with the majority having their higher studies from well-known universities from around the world, like Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, and Princeton, to name a few. The faculty-to-student ratio is also good. Exams are held on time, and the pattern of exams is semester-wise. Class size: 59. Course fees: INR per year.

Academically it is a good college, good placements, bad hostel food, but there are restrictions.
Placements: The placements are mainly concerned with one company. During my batch, 700 students were placed in TCS alone. The salary package was around Rs. 22,000 per month. Apart from it, several other reputed companies have visited and recruited us, but the numbers were few. The placement cell does a wonderful job. They give us daily updates through emails and placement officers are cordial. Many students get an internship to various companies. My friends got a paid internship to Novozymes at Rs. 10,000 per month.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is average, and it doesn't work at certain locations. The classrooms are spacious with wide windows and smart boards The library is the most wonderful if all buildings. It's a 2 storeyed building with a reading area and a multimedia section. The medical facilities are not quite up to the mark. There is one hospital and medicals shop on the campus. The food in the hostel was pathetic. I would advise you not to stay in the hostel because of the food, the cramped rooms, certain biased rules, regulations between girls and boys.
Faculty: I would give a 4-star rating to the faculty. Most of them were highly qualified, and they instil the zeal to study. But certain faculty members were not that much qualified. The industry exposure was limited. The course curriculum was wonderful. It was a mix of both analytical and theoretical with applied knowledge. The teacher-student ratio is good, but I couldn't recollect it. It's around 60:1.
Other: The cultural fests are okay, but there is great discrimination between boys and girls. Both are dumped in a barricade and made to sit around 4 hrs without any movement outside the barricade. The place is usually a buzz throughout the year as many depts organise many events throughout the year. The campus is a pleasant one with a lot of trees. The connectivity is not an issue. As you can stay either in Trichy or Thanjavur and frequent buses ply between the two. The only lacking I see is in sports. They don't encourage sports. Though there are a cricket ground football ground, basketball volleyball and indoor stadium with gym facilities and a tennis court. The physical education staffs are not that much well-equipped. They are lazy and sports day in such a big university goes unnoticed.
