Q:   How is SRM Chennai in terms of faculty, infrastructure, placement, etc.? Is it worth going to SRM if you want a bright future?
A:
  • College Infrastructure: SRM has a well-defined layout in terms of infrastructure. The campus is spread over a large area, with all the basic facilities provided. There are huge grounds and indoor courts for sports; the gymnasium is made for the students of the college. The library is technically advanced and has a good collection of books. The classrooms are well maintained with smart boards installed, and the washrooms are clean. The canteen has diverse varieties of food that are hygienic and affordable.
  • Academics: CSE has proven to be a good course for me as it aligns with my interests and liking for computers and programming. The course is well updated, and even the curricula followed in college fall in line with the skills required in the job sector. The course has a lot of research and practicality, which definitely makes one job-ready. The teachers are cooperative and experienced, and they mentor each student at every point.
  • Placements: Approximately 70% of the students get hired in the recruitment drive held by the college. The placement drive is held in the most efficient manner. The average package is around 5 LPA, which is a good kickstart for any student in their respective fields. The college has a placement cell that is responsible for inviting firms to the college and guiding fellow students in getting placed, hence making the college supportive. The placements must be inclusive of all the courses, which is a demerit.
  • Value-for-money: The annual tuition fee structure was a bit on the expensive side, as my yearly fee was around 3 lacs p/a, which might not be affordable for many students. But the quality of services and education, with all the basic amenities, make SRM worth the investment. Personally, SRM is making each penny count.
  • Campus Life: Though the college is isolated from the main part of the city, it is glorious from the inside. There are sports activities in the college and many cultural societies, like dance and music societies. Moreover, there are various clubs that keep on participating in educational competitions. Various seminars are held and several festivals are conducted throughout the year, making college life happen. There's a medical room to handle any emergency as and when it arises!

Ramapuram campus of SRM is definitely an advantage in terms of placements as most of the students do get great placements in well-known companies.

The placements are not good, core companies are visiting and giving jobs to only one or two people, and other students are getting placed in IT companies.

Balanced in every aspect and focused on placements.
Placements: Most of the students, around 80%, get placed. The highest package is around 1.2 CPA, while the lowest package is around 3 LPA. The average package is around 9–10 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Google, iOS, Amazon, Microsoft, and Samsung. Around 50% of students have internships for now, but not all of them are from specific companies. Software Development Engineer is one of the top roles offered.
Infrastructure: There is 24/7 Wi-Fi, and labs are fully equipped. The classrooms have central AC and high-tech projectors. The library has around three floors with more than 5,000 books. It is fully furnished and centrally air-conditioned. The hostel food is not that good, and the menu has not changed for two to three years. The rooms are good, though. The medical facilities are very good, and they take care of students' health. The hostels also conduct sports activities, games, and other events from time to time.
Faculty: Teachers are highly educated, qualified, and knowledgeable. They teach clearly until students understand the concepts properly. The course curriculum is relevant. The semester exams are neither too difficult nor too easy. If students study the respective subjects, they can definitely pass. The pass percentage is around 80–90%.
Other: The college is also very good when it comes to events, fests, and other extracurricular activities. Even the ticket prices are affordable. There are more than 200 student clubs, and most of them are useful.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this university and my decision of joining here.
Placements: Frankly speaking, placements are better for core branch students compared to CSE students. There's a lot of competition in CSE, unlike for core branches. There are fewer students, and placements are so good. I'm from EEE. Students from core branches got placed with salary packages varying from 12 LPA, 20 LPA to 15 LPA, etc. Currently, I'm doing an industrial internship with Havells Company. There are so many internship opportunities from best companies like Havells, Orient, etc.
Infrastructure: We have everything we need. Almost every department has a department library in their blocks. Wi-Fi is available in all blocks. Classrooms are good with AC. Hostels are also good. Food served is good. We have all types of food shops inside the hostels.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful. Teaching is also good. Semester exams are easy here with proper preparation. Making a good bond with teachers is very important. We get involved with industry people too. Courses are planned in a way that students are exposed to skills and industry level.
Other: Students will experience a beautiful campus life here. We have everything we need in this university. There's so much freedom here.

Review of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur.
Placements: 40% of the total students are placed in our course. The highest salary package offered this year was approximately 50 LPA. Google, Tata and many more are the recruiters of our college. 30% of students got internships in Samsung, Deno, and many other companies. If you are a good student, you can get placed. It depends on you.
Infrastructure: The college has very good infrastructure. Every facility is available. Rules and regulations are very strict, and discipline is well-maintained. Food quality is also good. We have 2 messes for the boys' hostel, and it is inside the boys' hostel. Late-night entry is not allowed.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful. If you do something good, they will appreciate it and help you. The curriculum is relevant and makes students industry-ready, as it also gives us practical knowledge. Semester exams are also easy in the college, and the pass percentage is 50 percent.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to pursue B.Tech in computer Science and engineering, as I like coding.

Good college, great campus life, but you have to study on your own.
Infrastructure: I am in N block hostel, which is really good. The infrastructure for the university is also really good, and the food is way better than most hostels. Everything works really well, the rooms are good, and the quality of everything is good. The campus has everything.
Faculty: Faculty members in my section are really bad, they don't know how to teach, except for my Maths teacher who is good, and the Biology teacher is good too. Everyone else only prefers Tamil people and talks to them in Tamil. I have to study everything on my own to recover.
Other: The college provides a lot of infrastructure to boost stats, but the crowd quality is not good. Also, the facilities are not updated, they just review their work and ask us to do everything, but they should teach us from the basics first, they don't teach us anything.

I have a good time learning here.
Placements: If students sit for placements from our course, about 40 percent are placed. Although most are not considering placements as we want to go for higher studies like Master's and Ph.D., we have an option for sitting for placements for our course.
Infrastructure: Our course is brilliantly designed, from interdisciplinary sciences to theory to cutting-edge nanotech labs. It is awesome. Hostel life, on the contrary, can be improved. The girls' hostel is very rigid with its rules, and the hostel staff is not friendly.
Faculty: Exams surely are hectic because we do not have much time between tests, and the syllabus being vast poses another issue. However, we also get amazing guidance from our faculty members, who are not just experts in their fields, but also really good human beings.

Faculty depends. Good placements before. Now high, good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: I heard many people actually get placements, but this time, there are around 30,000 people in the engineering department alone. So, it might be tough, but specifically in my course, the number is smaller, so I might have a chance. Top roles are cybersecurity analyst, digital forensic analyst, cybersecurity engineer, etc.
Infrastructure: The structure is really good. Only the weather is a problem. It's becoming exhausting. The Wi-Fi actually fluctuates a lot, except in specific places like the architecture block and library. I have heard that the mess food is bad, but compared to my PG, it's good. They get snacks like pani puri, gulab jamun, etc., and a good variety of food, but one shouldn't consistently have mess food. Sports-wise, there is everything here.
Faculty: It really depends on which semester. The faculty is helpful, but we might have to use our own resources and seek help from the side. The semester exams, I heard, are going to be tough. My first one is in two weeks. The course curriculum is not relevant, but I think it's because it's the first semester. They are teaching me biology and all, Welding, fitting, and all, idk, for job security.
