MTech is a two-year course divided into four semesters. SRM Institute of Technology Kattankulathur offers M.Tech in full-time mode in 27 specialisations and part-time in nine specialisations. M.Tech (full-time) specialisations are Automation and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Cloud Computing, Computer-Aided Design, Construction Engineering and Management, Electronics and Control Engineering, Embedded System Technology, Environmental Engineering, etc.

The deemed-to-be university accepts GATE score for M.Tech admission. However, aspirants who have not qualified GATE can also get admission to M.Tech course by qualifying SRMJEEE (PG) conducted by the university. SRM will conduct SRMJEEE in two phases. After the completion of the selection rounds, aspirants need to attend the counselling and document verification round. As per the eligibility criteria, aspirants must pass bachelor's degree in relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate to apply for the M.Tech course. The university considers the eligibility and GATE score for providing admission.

Aspirants who have not qualified GATE can appear for SRMJEEE (PG) conducted by the university. Eligibility of candidates are evaluate during document verification. In case an aspirant is unable to fulfill the requirements, his or her admission stands cancelled.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology admissions are conducted on the basis of entrance tests. The admission for the flagship programs are held on the basis of SRMJEEE UG exam. Further, SRM MBA admissions are conducted on the basis of SRMJEEM test. The SRMJEEE PG test is conducted for the various SRMIST PG courses. The university also accepts scoring from nationally-held tests like CAT, TANCET, MAT, etc. for admissions.

SRM University conducts SRM JEE exam for admission to Engineering courses. The university does not accept scores for any other entrance exams. Also, direct admission is not valid either. Candidates are shortlisted for BTech and M.Tech based on their past academic records and scores obtained in the entrance exam. 

To sit for the respective exams, candidates must apply for the exams priorly and make a preparation strategy to ace the exam. 

SRM University Chennai offers Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses at the UG level in the Medical stream through NEET UG scores followed by round-wise NEET Counselling. As per SRM University Chennai cutoff 2024, the last-round closing rank was 195886 for admission to the MBBS course. The Round 1 closing rank for the same stood at 637582 for the students belonging to the General AI quota. 

For BDS admission, the NEET UG first and last-round closing ranks were 980273 and 980273, respectively. 

Admission to School of Science and Humanities at SRM IST Chennai for 2026 is primarily based on SRM Joint Entrance Examination for PG courses while UG admissions often consider merit in qualifying exams.
