Yes, admission criteria for University of Madars MSc courses are merit-based. Thus, candidates who wish to take admission to MSc courses are not required to take any entrance test. They are just required to fill out the application form available on the university's official website.

The University of Madras MSc eligibility criteria differs according to the students preference of a particular specialisation at the university. Please refer to the table below to view the specialisation wise requirements.

1. For MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice Science, candidates must have a bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised board.
2. MSc in Statistics specialisation, a BSc in Statistics and Maths is a requirement. 
3.  To avail admission for MSc in Computer Science, a degree from a recognised institution in BSc CS or BCA is a prerequisite. 
4.  For MSc in Neuroscience, students should have passed in BSc in Life Science/ BSc in Physical/ Chemical Science from a recognised academic institution or should have either an MBBS or BAMS, BUMS,BDS,BNYS,BPT or BOT degrees. 

Students seeking admission are required to submit certain documents at the time of DIT MBA application submission. Mentioned below are the documents to be uploaded

• Class 10 and12 marksheets
• UG degree
• UG marksheets
• Transfer certificate
• Migration certificate
• Income certificate (applicable for candidates seeking admission via EWS category)
• Caste certificate (if required)

Madras University average package is not available yet. The median package offered to PG 2 year students in 2024 was INR 4.3 LPA, whereas the median package offered to PG 3 year students was INR 4.8 LPA.  

According to the University of Madras NIRF report, 483 PG 2 year students were placed in 2024 with a median package of INR 4.2 LPA. In PG 3 year program, 7 students got placements with a median salary of INR 4.80 LPA.

The university offers PG Diploma courses in nearly 50 specialisations. The Diploma courses are offered in full-time, part-time, and distance modes. Some of the specialisations offered are mentioned in the table given below:

As per the Madras University rule book, all students must have 75% and above attendance for appearing for the university exams. (Theory/Practical). If a Student fails to have the minimum attendance, the principal shall approve the shortage of attendance up to a maximum limit of 10% after collecting the prescribed fee of INR 250 each for Theory/Practical exams separately. Students should apply online using the University's official website. For admission to UG and PG courses, Madras University accepts a number of national-level entrance exams. After successfully registration, students should take the course-specific entrance test to be considered for admission. The University will publish a merit list of selected students basis their test scores. Students whose names appear on the merit list should pay the admission fee to secure their places.
