IIT Jammu admission is a multi-step process. Starting with the application, students need to go through the course-specific entrance exam followed by other selection rounds (if applicable). After the selection rounds are over, students are required to go through the exam-specific counselling process for final seat allotment. Check below the steps to get a seat in IIT Jammu:
Step 1: Students seeking admission in IIT Jammu must submit the online application form for course-specific entrance exam or college depending on the course they wish to get into.
- BTech and BSc/ BS aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). Read more
- MTech candidates are required to register for GATE through the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in). Aspirants also need to apply on the institute's website after COAP.
- Students are required to apply via the official website of IIT Jammu for PhD programmes.
Step 2: Aspirants need to have JEE Advanced scores for BS/ BTech and GATE scores for MTech. Admission to MSc programme is based on IIT JAM scores of the candidates. The selection for PhD is based on CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR scores. Aspirants can also apply with GATE scores provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Step 3: Candidates must score equal or above IIT Jammu cutoff in the accepted entrance exam for admission. After the selection rounds are completed, candidates need to go through the course-wise counselling process for final seat allotment. Selected candidates need to come for document verification. Aspirants also need to pay the IIT Jammu fees to confirm their seat.
IIT Jammu Fees & Seats 2026
IIT Jammu fees are inclusive of multiple components, namely tuition fees, security deposit, hostel fees, mess fees, and more. Some of the components are chargeable as one-time in the total course fee. Apart from this, the seat allotment at IITs is carried out as per the JoSAA seat matrix. For seat allotment, candidates have to participate in the counselling procedure. During the course, candidates have to submit the fees semester-wise. IIT Jammu intake varies course-wise. Candidates are offered seats in the flagship course i.e. BTech based on JEE Advanced score. The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS categories, and Persons with Disability (PwD) is as per Govt. of India guidelines. No, candidates seeking admission to BTech at IIT Jammu must have qualified JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced for admission. Final selection of candidates to IIT Jammu BTech programme is based on their JEE Advanced ranks. The counselling process is managed and regulated by JoSAA. IIT Jammu MTech Admission 2026
IIT Jammu offers a two-year MTech programme at the PG level. The course is divided into four semesters. The institute offers MTech in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Bioscience and Bioengineering and other sub-specialisations. Admission to this course is based on a GATE score followed by COAP counselling. Aspirants must complete their graduation to apply for MTech programmes.

No, students seeking admission to IIT Jammu for MTech are required to have a valid score in the GATE exam. Other than this, the institute also conducts a written test and interview for further selection as per the official brochure. To add, students are also required to have passed their BTech degree in relevant branch. This information is as per details released by the institute for admission to its MTech course. However, for any other information around direct admission, candidates are advised to reach out to the admission office of the college for details.
The minimum eligibility required is a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year course) or a master's degree in Science with 60%-65% aggregate. Relaxation of 5% aggregate or 0.5 CPI is offered to SC/ST/PwD category candidates on the minimum eligibility score.
