Indian Institute of Technology Madras also known as IITM offers the programmes through regular and full-time modes. Students are offered over ten programmes spanning multiple specialisations. IIT Madras admission process includes the application process, selection round, cutoff, merit list and counselling. IIT Madras Application 2026
Candidates seeking admission must complete the application form for the course-specific entrance exam. For example, for BTech, candidates are required to apply for JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced application.
Similarly, for the MSc, IIT JAM application form is required to be completed. However, for MTech admission, candidates have to register for GATE first. The qualifying candidates have further applied for COAP and then applied on the official website of IIT Madras to proceed to confirm their admission.
Selection Rounds 2026
For BTech courses, students are selected based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced entrance scores. However, for MTech course, students must have GATE entrance exam scores followed by COAP Counselling. The institute considers IIT JAM and CCMN Counselling for MSc courses. Candidates can check with the admission office for the selection rounds of the rest of the courses.
Release of Cutoff list, Counselling & Admission Confirmation

DoMS IIT Madras cutoff 2025 was published for admission to the management course, as MBA, based on the candidates' performance in the CAT entrance exam. For the General AI category, the DoMS IIT Madras CAT cutoff 2025 was 85.11 overall and 50 for all the sections, like Quants, VA-RC and DI-LR.
Students who want admission to this institute need to clear both the overall percentile and the sectional cutoff. Those who clear the final CAT cutoff are then eligible to take part in the selection process that may involve WAT, GD and PI.

Madras IIT admissions are considered a little tough as it is one of the top IITs present in India. For the IIT Madras BTech departments like EE, CS & CH, the average package noticed was 28.8 LPA, 53.2 LPA, 17.5 LPA. The college recorded decent placement statistics.

Direct admissions are possible in IIT Madras for some Diploma programmes. For other programmes such as UG and PG courses, direct admissions are not available. Students will have to appear for the entrance exam for admission to the available programmes.
