JEE Advanced 2026 Counselling: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts IIT JEE Advanced counselling 2026. Usually, the JEE Advanced counselling registration on the JoSAA portal starts a day after the JEE Advanced result is released. Hence for JEE Advanced JoSAA 2026 counselling, the registration is expected to commence in the first week of June 2026. The JoSAA 2026 dates and all the details will be released after the JEE Advanced exam at josaa.nic.in.

JoSAA counselling process for JEE Advanced 2026 will be held in 6 rounds. JoSAA is responsible for the joint seat allocation process for admissions to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 Other GFTIs. The candidates without JEE Advanced ranks can participate in JoSAA with JEE Mains rank for admission to the NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. Q:   If I do not get 75% in class 12 boards, but I pass the JEE Advanced exam, can I apply for JoSAA counselling?
A: 

No, your candidature will be rejected as you need to have minimum of 75% in class 12 to be eligible for admisison to the IITs, NIT, IIITs and GFTIs via the JoSAA counselling. Even if you pass JEE Advanced and JEE Main, of you do not have 75% minimum marks in class 12 boards you will no get admissions.

JEE Advanced Counselling and Seat Allotment 2026 Process

JEE Advanced qualified candidates will be required to register for JEE Advanced counselling and seat allotment, which is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Note that only eligible candidates will be able to participate in the counselling and seat allotment process. The given steps can be followed by the candidates to complete JEE Advanced counselling and seat allotment 2026 or JoSAA 2026.

JEE Advanced 2026 Counselling: Steps to follow

Step 1: Registration: As the first step, candidates must register for JEE Advanced 2026 counselling and seat allotment. Students will need to use their JEE Main roll number and JEE Advanced password as credentials while logging in.

Step 2: Filling and Locking of Choice: After registration, candidates will have to select the college and courses of their choice from the available options and lock them.

Step 3: Allotment of Seats: The authorities will conduct mock seat allotments for candidates as per the choices they make. Candidates will be allowed to change their choices after mock allotment. Seats will be allotted to students as per their merit, preferred choices, category and availability.

Step 4: Reporting at Centres: After the allotment of seats, candidates will have to download their allotment letter and have to pay the seat acceptance fee. They will need to carry the requisite documents to the respective centres for verification.

JEE Advanced Counselling 2026 Seat allotment: Important Points

Students are required to keep the points mentioned below in mind regarding the seat allotment during JEE Advanced 2026 Counselling. Candidates will be allotted seats according to their ranks in the exam:

  • Log in using the Registration No (User ID), JEE Advanced 2026 Roll No and Password to check seat allotment status.
  • Students should check their status of Seat Allotment at the end of every round, as it may change due to upgradation
  • The soft copy of the category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) certificates uploaded at the time of online registration will be scrutinised against originals during seat allocation
  • If the certificates uploaded are found to be inappropriate, the student will be treated as General only if their score in Paper-1 of JEE Main is above the cutoff score for the General category.

The aggregate marks will be calculated as the sum of the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Candidates have to satisfy the subject-wise as well as the aggregate qualifying marks to be included in a rank list.

Q:   What is JEE Advanced rank list?

JEE Advanced rank lists are prepared based on the aggregate marks in JEE Advanced. Only candidates who appear for BOTH Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for ranking. There will be no waiting list for ranking. The ranklist is used in JoSAA for allocation of seats in the IITs. JoSAA is held online only. All the candidates who are eligible for admission will have to participate in the joint seat allocation process by filling in their preferential choices of the courses and institutes. If the aggregate marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, then the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks: Candidates having higher positive marks will be awarded a higher rank. If a tie exists then a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics. If this does not break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Physics. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.
