Commonly asked questions
The definition of a good IIT can be subjective. The candidates who wish to get admisison to the first generation of the IITs like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee must have a high score of 250+ marks out of 360 marks. However, this is not applicable for all courses offered by these IITs. Every course and IIT has different demand and seat ratio which effects the admission of the candidates. Hence it is very difficult to say what will be the minimum score or rank required in JEE Advanced to get into a good IIT.
Candidates must aim to score as high as possible in the exam to be able to get a seat in the first generation of the IITs as these IITs see the most demand and craze among students in academia.
The JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff will be released with the result of JEE Advanced 2025. Until then, candidates can check below the JEE Advanced cutpff from the previous years:
The JEE Advanced 2024 cutoff of the common rank list is 30.34%; 27.30% for the GEN-EWS rank list and OBC-NCL rank list; 15.17% for SC, ST, and PwD rank lists across all categories; and 7.58% for Preparatory course rank lists. Last year the cutoff for inclusion in the CRL was 23.89%; 21.50% for GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL rank list; 11.95% for SC, ST and PWD rank list across categories; and 5.98% for the preparatory course rank lists.
All those candidates who have score above the cutoff marks in their respective category can register for JoSAA counselling for participating in the IIT seat allotment process. Note that qualifying the JEE Advaced cutoff will not guarantee seat in the IITs. various factos are there in play while alloting seats in the IITs. These factors include demand of a course and IIT, number of seats on offer, reservation criteria etc.

How is the JEE Advanced 2025 Result Prepared
JEE Advanced 2025 result is based on the marks secured by the candidates in the exam. The marks are calculated based on the JEE Advanced marking scheme.
Marks calculation subject-wise: The marks obtained by a candidate in Physics in JEE Advanced 2025 will equal the marks scored in the Physics part of Paper 1 plus the marks scored in the Physics part of Paper 2. The same will be true for Maths and Chemistry.
Aggregate marks calculation: The aggregate marks obtained by a candidate in JEE (Advanced) 2025 will be the sum of the marks awarded to the candidate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Marks obtained in Chemistry and Mathematics will be calculated in the same way. The aggregate marks of paper 1 and paper 2 will be added together to get marks of the candidates out of 360.
Commonly asked questions
If the JEE Advanced aggregate marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, then the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks: Step 1: Candidates having higher positive marks will be awarded higher rank. If the tie breaking criterion at Step 1 fails to break the tie, then the following criterion at Step 2 will be followed. Step 2: Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Physics. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.
No, there is no provision to re-evaluate/re-check JEE Advanced 2025 result. The exam conducting authority will not entertain any correspondence in this regard. Therefore candidates have to accept the scores of the exam as declared by the authority as the final ones. JEE Advanced 2025 AIR will be used for JoSAA counselling in the allotment of seats in the IITs. Candidates who have secured more than or equal to JEE Advanced cutoff I. e. the minimum marks in each subject and in aggregate as prescribed by the IITs will pass JEE Advanced 2025. The scores of JEE Advanced are carefully determined by the authorities. There are no chances of errors in it. For subject-wise scores, the exam conducting authority will consider the total marks obtained in a subject by a candidate in both papers. For example, marks secured by a candidate in the Physics section of both papers will be added to determine the total marks in the subject. The same procedure will be followed for Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam conducting authorities will then calculate the aggregate marks/scores of the candidates in JEE Advanced 2025 on the basis of the total marks secured by candidates in each subject.
