FTII JET Selection Process

Film and Television Institute of India conducts FTII JET exam for admission to its FTII, Pune Campus. The FTII JET selection process is conducted through institute’s official website. FTII has opened the registration window on March 11, 2026. The last date to apply for FTII JET 2026 is April 07, 2026.  All official notices and updates regarding FTII JET exam are being released on Announcement Page - ftii.ac.in/announcement. With JET score, students can pursue postgraduate, postgraduate diploma and postgraduate certificate courses in different specializations of Film & TV streams.

To get admission at FTII, students must apply and appear for entrance test. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria, reservation criteria, age limit and nationality requirements set by FTII for exam. In this article, Shiksha explains the selection process in detail.

Q:   I am 18 years old. Can I apply for FTII JET entrance exam?
A: 

The Film and Television Institute of India lays down the age limit for admission to offered courses through FTII JET entrance exam in its admission prospectus. An 18 year old student is not eligible to apply for FTII JET exam. The minimum age requirement for the exam is 21 years.

Q:   What is the passing marks for FTII JET?
A: 

The minimum passing marks for the Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test varies, however, the minimum final cut-off marks to qualify for admission in FTII are as follows.

  • 50% for General category.
  • 45% for OBC NCL category.
  • 40% for SC/ST category.
Q:   How much to score to qualify the FTII entrance exam?
A: 

There is a cut off which is defined after the exam is conducted. The FTII JET cut off is defined based on various factors such as the exam's difficulty level, total number of applicants who appeared in the exam and the shifts under which the exam is conducted. Candidates who score equal to or more than the FTII JET cut off will qualify in the exam. As far as the minimum passing marks of FTII JET varies, the minimum final cut-off marks to qualify for admission in FTII for General Category is 50% for General category while that for OBC NCL category is 45%.

FTII JET Selection Process 2026

The selection process of FTII JET includes multiple stages that a student must complete to secure a seat at Film and Television Institute of India. Aspirants can check the space below to know the complete process for FTII JET exam. The selection process for MFA in Cinema with specialization in Screen Acting is different than the other programs.

FTII JET Application Process

For admission at FTII, students must register themselves by adding required details in FTII JET application form. The institute has released registration form in online mode only. Candidates who wish to purse any of the offered courses, have to then fill and submit online form by logging in using created credentials.

In JET online form, candidates have to add their personal information, such as address, ID proof number, educational details, etc.; select maximum 3 test cities from 26 locations and upload documents in prescribed format. After this step, candidates are required to select maximum 2 courses from Group A and/or B. To complete the application process, they have to pay category-wise application fee.

FTII JET Admit Card

Film and Television Institute of India will release admit card for Stage 1 exam for only those students who have successfully submitted registration form on or before last date. The FTII JET admit card will contain details like name of the examination centre, reporting time, personal details of examinees, etc. The hall ticket is a mandatory document that applicants must take with them to FTII JET exam centre. FTII JET Stage 1 admit card will be downloadable between April 18 and April 25, 2026.

FTII JET Stage 1 Exam

The FTII JET Stage 1 exam will be conducted in offline mode in 26 exam cities across India. The FTII JET dates for Stage 1 exam has been declared by the institute in its admission prospectus. The FTII JET stage 1 exam will be conducted on April 26, 2026, in two shifts. The FTII JET question paper for Stage 1 includes Paper 1 (Objective Type Questions) and Paper 2 (Subjective Type Questions). Candidates get 2 hours 30 minutes to complete both papers. The total marks for FTII JET stage 1 is 100 marks (Paper 1: 60 marks and Paper 2: 40 marks). This pattern will be followed for admission to every offered course at FTII, except for MFA in Cinema with specialization in Screen Acting.

FTII JET Stage 1 Result

After Stage 1 is successfully conducted, Film and Television Institute of India releases result for Paper 1 & Paper 2. The FTII JET result includes name and roll number of candidates selected for Stage 2 exam. Along with merit list, FTII also releases schedule for FTII JET Stage 2 exam.

FTII JET Stage 2 Exam

Candidates who are selected in first stage will be able to take exam for second stage, which is the practical assessment round. FTII JET Stage 2 exam is conducted at institute’s campus in Pune. Candidates have to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation. The tentative schedule for FTII JET stage 2 has been released. It is as follows:

Audition, Performance and Interaction for MFA in Screen Acting: 2nd Week of June 2026 to 2nd Week of July 2026 (Tentative)

Mixed Format Assessment for all Programs/Courses except MFA in Screen Acting: 2nd Week of July 2026 to 4th Week of July 2026 (Tentative)

FTII JET Stage 1 & Stage 2 Process fo MFA in Cinema with specialization in Screen Acting

For admission to MFA in Cinema in screen acting, candidates will have to appear for following two stages:

Stage-1: Written Test (MCQ based written Test)

Stage-2: Audition, Performance and Interaction

The question paper pattern for MFA in Cinema in Screen Acting is as follows:

Stage 1

  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions
  • Time: 1 hr 30 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 50
  • Total Sections: II
  • Total Marks 100 (50 marks per section)
  • Marking Scheme: 2 marks for every correct answer
  • Negative Marking: -0.5 for every incorrect answer
  • Choosing/selecting more than one option will be awarded (-) 0.5 marks
  • Weightage of Written Test: 25% of the total marks (Stage-1 plus Stage-2)

Stage 2

  • Location: Pune Campus
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Weightage of Stage-2: 75% of the total Marks (Stage 1 plus Stage 2)

FTII JET Result or Final Merit List

Once both stages are over, Film and Television Institute of India releases FTII JET final merit list. This list includes names and roll numbers of selected students along with their scores in Stage 1 & Stage 2. Candidates with their names in this list are eligible for FTII JET counselling process. The institute also releases FTII JET cut off for each category and offered course.

FTII JET Seat Acceptance

The selected candidates who have their names in final merit list have to confirm their seat by paying Seat Acceptance Fee of INR 50,000 before last date. This amount is later deducted from the candidate’s course fee, after his/her admission is confirmed. If a candidate fails to pay seat acceptance fee on deadline, their seat will be given to the next selected candidates.

FTII JET Document Verification

Students who will pay their seat acceptance fee will have to get their documents verified for further admission process. To know the document verification status, students have to submit a google form, sent by FTII on its official page. Candidates who will submit the form before time will get status on registered contact details.

FTII JET Medical Test

Film and Television Institute of India conducts a medical test as last step of FTII JET selection process. Students must note that if they fail the medical test, institute has the right to cancel the candidate’s admission.

Q:   Can I get a scholarship to get into FTII?
A: 

The institute offers the following scholarships based on merit and performance credits during the students' time there. 

  1. Entrance Exam Merit - Given to toppers in each of the film wing courses; INR 12,500 per year. 
  2. 1st Semester Merit - Given to the first 3 toppers; Common Module (Editing, Sound Recording & Sound Design, Art Direction & Production Design and Screenplay Writing); 1st topper get INR 24,000, 2nd gets INR 21,500 and the 3rd gets INR 19,000 every year
  3. Given to acting topper; INR 24,000 / year
  4. Given to screenplay writing topper; INR 24,000 / year
  5. 2nd to 5th Semester Merit - Given to the 1st and 2nd topper of each course; INR 13,500 and INR 11,500 respectively.

Q:   Can I apply for more than one course at FTII?
A: 

Yes, candidates can apply for more than one course from each of the two groups on FTII JET application form. To successfully submit online form, candidates will have to page following application fee.

Q:   How are candidates selected in the FTII JET exam?
A: 

As per admission process of FTII JET entrance exam, candidates who wish to get admission at this institute have to appear for 2 stages. Students who are selected in first stage can take Stage 2 exam. After both stages are over, selected candidates are called for further admission process, including interview, counselling and medical test. Candidates who will pass in all stages will be able to secure a seat at FTII.

No, a candidate cannot fill FTII JET application form offline. The Film and Television Institute of India releases JET registration form in online mode and candidates have to fill and submit the same in online form only. No offline application form will be accepted by FTII for entrance exam.
