SNAP 2019 analysis

SNAP 2019 was conducted today at various exam centres in 90 cities across India. Overall, the SNAP question paper was similar to last year, the only difference being no General Awareness section. This year, there were only three sections General English, Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (Q-DI,DS) and Analytical & Logical Reasoning (A-LR). The English section had 34 questions, Q-DI,DS had 40  (including 5 Special Questions) and A-LR had 36 questions.

SNAP 2019 Analysis: General English
This section was dominated by vocabulary questions. Like last year, there were only two RCs but this time one of them had 3 questions while the other had 5 questions, which made it 8 questions from RCs. Except for 1 RC, the entire General English was a cakewalk and one should have got done with it really quickly. The vocabulary questions weren’t as difficult as it was last year. Compared to the vocabulary words that figured in the paper last year (for example: “tergiversate”), this year’s vocabulary was definitely easier.

The Fill In The Blanks questions could have been answered easily. The grammar-based questions were easy as well. However, the two questions on voice change were extremely easy.  Overall, it was an easy section to attempt. An attempt of 25-26 in 20-25 minutes with 90 percent plus accuracy is desirable.

SNAP 2019 Analysis: Quantitative Ability
The quantitative ability section of SNAP 2019 turned out to be much more time consuming than previous years exams. Time, Speed and Distance, Geometry and Modern Math dominated this section. Some of the questions were long to read and thus time-consuming.

While the questions weren’t very difficult it was important for students to spend a good amount of time on this section. An attempt of 18-20 in 45 minutes with 90 percent accuracy would be ideal.

SNAP 2019 Analysis: Logical and Analytical Reasoning

Logical Reasoning section of SNAP 2019 was quite similar to previous years with some of the questions being quite boring and lengthy. A couple of caselets was quite easyy. The proportion of verbal reasoning questions was quite low and analytical reasoning questions dominated. A good score in Logical Reasoning would be around 32-33.

The minimum marks of every SIU institute varies. While for SIBM Pune and SCHMRD the minimum cut off is usually 95-98 percentile, the cut offs for SSBF Pune is nearly 60.

There is no SNAP counselling fee to be paid. The fee is already charged in SNAP application fee per college selection.

SNAP candidates are not required to apply separately for all SIU campuses. They can select colleges in the SNAP application form. However, they need to fill the PI-shortlist form separately for whichever colleges they get shortlisted.

According to the latest SNAP exam pattern the paper will be divided into three sections. Every question will carry 1 mark and there is negative marking of 0.25.

·       English has 15 questions

·       Quants, DI-DS has 20 questions

·       A-LR has 25 questions

Between SNAP and NMAT, the former is considered easier in terms of difficulty level of the questions. However, SNAP is of 60 minutes in which candidates have to address 60 question. This makes SNAP more challenging than NMAT which is a test of longer duration (2 hours having 108 questions).

Usually it is recommended that Arun Sharma series (Verbal, Quant, DI), R.S. Aggarwal's Reasoning/Quant books, and Word Power Made Easy, are enough for SNAP preparation. Sample questions papers, mock tests, sectional test series are also important.

SNAP total marks is 60 so 40 to 45 marks can be considered a good score. It will convert into about 97-98 percentile. So, it the exam, candidates must aim to attempt 40 to 45 questions correctly.

Two months may not be enough to prepare for SNAP exam, if you are attempting it for the first time. However, you can try with a very specific and focussed plan. Check SNAP question papers of previous years to know dominant subjects. Study only those thoroughly and practice mock tests side by side.

SNAP syllabus is not difficult as it contains the same topics as other MBA entrance exams. But the key to SNAP preparation lies in practicing SNAP specific questions.
