Commonly asked questions
Q:   How many marks are awarded for each answer in TANCET exam?
A:

In the TANCET exam, candidates are awarded 1 mark for every correct answer. This applies to all the courses covered under the exam. The marking scheme is uniform, which means regardless of the subject or section, a correct response always adds one mark to the total score. To maximize their score, candidates should focus on accuracy and ensure they mark the correct option for each question.

Q:   What factors are taken into consideration for the normalization of marks in TANCET?
A:
The normalisation of marks is done based on the standard deviation, mean marks and raw score. However, TANCET score for MBA and MCA courses are not normalised as the questions in TANCET exam remains the same for all the candidates. Additionally, the MBA and MCA exam are conducted in single shifts. Scores for the Engineering exam, CEETA PG, will be normalised using a predefined formulae. Although CEETA PG is also conducted in single shift, the question variation in the stream specific section can lead to change of the difficulty standards in the exam.

TANCET Result 2025: What is Normalisation of Marks?

Starting the 2023 exam term, TANCET exam is only conducted for MBA and MCA courses. The normalisation of marks is not required for TANCET MBA and MCA courses as the exam is held in a single shift. Candidates who took the Tamil Nadu state-level exam for ME/MTech/MArch/Plan courses, i.e. CEETA PG, will face normalisation of scores for first two parts of the exam.

The normalisation of marks is done for ME/ MTech/ MArch / MPlan programmes only. The question paper of the entrance test is divided into three parts – Part I (Engineering Mathematics), Part II (Basic Engineering & Sciences) and Part III (meant for different disciplines). Part I and II are common for all programmes, while Part III differs based on the course. As a result, the mean mark and standard deviation vary as per disciplines in Part III. To bring uniformity in variations, marks of candidates are normalised. The formula for calculating the normalized marks is given below.

Formula for normalisation of marks:

N= 40+(10/s) X (R-M)

Where,

N= Normalised marks

S= Standard Deviation

R= Raw marks

M= Mean marks

Note: TANCET rank list 2025 will be prepared based on the normalised marks.
