A:
TANCET participating colleges define the TANCET cutoff scores or the last ranks for admission. However, participating institutes do not release a cutoff list for candidates to check during the admission process. TANCET percentile score is an indicator to measure the comparative performance of how well a test taker performed compared to other test-takers. Anna University releases the TANCET percentile score along with the results and scorecard. DTE takes into account the TANCET percentile scores to rank candidates after successful document verification.

Calculation of TANCET Percentile Score

A frequent query among the TANCET test takers is ‘how is percentile score calculated’. The process to calculate the TANCET percentile score requires the candidates to solve the basic mathematical equation of calculating percentage. The formula to calculate the percentile score in TANCET is mentioned below:

The formula for TANCET Percentile Score

TANCET Percentile Mark = Y/N × 100

In the table above, N denotes the number of test takers in a particular course. While Y is the number of candidates with an actual score lower than a particular candidate’s score.

Q:   What are some of the TANCET colleges for admission to 99+ percentile holders?
A:
Tamil Nadu has more than 300 MBA colleges that accept TANCET scores for MBA Admission. Candidates with a 99+ percentile can easily convert the admission call from the top colleges accepting TANCET. CEG and PSGCT are the only colleges that offer admission only to 99+ percentile from the Open category. Candidates securing 99 percentile in TANCET exam must choose the college and course preference during the choice-filling process with caution. Candidates who have a score of 99 percentile can easily expect the admission in PSGCT or CEG, Anna University.
Q:   Which TANCET score would be used for admissions into TANCET MBA colleges? I have an actual score of 29.33 and a percentile score of 87.678.
A:
Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, only considers TANCET percentile score. TANCET actual score is calculated by allotting 1 mark each for the correct response and deducting 1/3 mark for each incorrect response. The actual score can be converted into a percentile score after evaluating the total test takers with an actual score that is less than a particular test taker. For example, Mohan has an actual score of 59 marks, and 95% of the total test takers secured an actual score below 59. In such a case, the percentile score of Mohan will be 95. Similarly, if 98% of the test takers had secured an actual score less than 59, Mohan would get 98 as his percentile score in TANCET exam. Further, DTE allots TANCET rank based on the percentile score of the test taker eligible for the counselling process.
Q:   What is the cut off of Anna University for MBA admission?
A:

The Anna University MBA cutoff 2025 varies for different colleges, rounds, and categories. The MBA course is offered via affiliated colleges of Anna University, wherein the last round cutoff score for MBA admission stood at 5641 for Selvam Educational Institutions, 5632 for Nehru Institute of Information Technology and Management and 5615 for M.A.M. Business School, Tiruchirappalli, for the students belonging to the General AI quota.

For example, Mohit has an actual score of 67 in the TANCET MBA exam, to calculate his percentile score, he should know the total number of candidates who took the MBA exam. Additionally, Mohit must have the knowledge of the total number of test takers with an actual score lower than 67 marks.

In case 22849 candidates took the TANCET MBA exam, and 12200 candidates have an actual score of less than 67 marks, the calculation of Mohit’s percentile score in the TANCET MBA exam will be done as mentioned below:

  • Y = 12200
  • N = 22849

Mohits Percentile Score in TANCET MBA = 12200/22849 × 100

Based on the equation above, Mohit’s TANCET percentile score, who secured 67 actual marks, will be 53.39 per cent.

What is TANCET Rank 2025?

TANCET rank helps during the allotment process. All candidates with the percentile score are allotted a rank when they get their documents verified. DTE Tamil Nadu will allot the college based on the candidate’s rank position in the TANCET rank list 2025. All candidates with the TANCET rank are qualified for the TN MBA admissions. TANCET colleges will accept the TANCET cutoff ranks to facilitate the admission process. Along with the release of the rank lists, TANCET toppers list is revealed via the PDF.

How is TANCET Rank Allotted?

DTE Tamil Nadu allots the TANCET rank based on the scores of each candidate with the verified documents. While allotting a rank, DTE considers the following factors:

  • Percentile score of the candidate
  • Category of the candidate
  • Tie-breaking criteria

In case there is a tie between two or more candidates while allotting rank, DTE follows a set methodology for allotment of the TANCET merit rank.

TANCET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria

There can be cases when two or more test takers have an equal percentile score in the TANCET exam. In cases of a tie, DTE follows a tie breaking criteria while allotting the TANCET rank. The allotment of seats during the TANCET seat allocation process will be done based on the rank of a candidate. TANCET tie breaking criteria for rank allotment is as follows:

  • Candidates with a higher average percentage from first semester to N-1 semesters in the qualifying degree exam are considered. Here N refers to the total number of semesters in the qualifying degree exam.
  • In case the tie still persists, a candidate who is older as per the date of birth mentioned in SSLC certificate will get the preference in rank allotment.

Past TANCET Statistics for Rank Allotment

The table below mentions the statistics for TANCET test takers who have been allotted a rank in the past session of the state level MBA exam:

TANCET 2025 Statistics
