Q:   Can I join IISc without JEE Main?
A: 

The answer to this question depends on the course you are applying at IISC.

For Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme, aspirants are offered admission based on JEE Main score. Hoewever, for BSc programme admission,  JEE is not compulsory. Candidates with a valid score in IISER Aptitude Test can also get admission. For other courses such as MTech, MSc and PhD, JEE Main is not required for admission at Indian Institute of Science (IISC).

A: 

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc) is ranked 1st and 2nd under the Universities & Overall categories, respectively of NIRF 2025. As such it is clearly a great institute with reviews mentioning pros such as:

  • Infrastructure: The institute features advanced classrooms which resemble seminar halls and the campus is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi (100 MB/PS). While Labs and also advanced whereas the  JRD Tata library is large and comprehensive. (Soumyadip Bank- M.Sc. in Chemical Sciences - Batch of 2026)
  • Placements: Though the institute focuses more on research and advancement to PhD than placements as such though even new courses such as MSc Chemical Sciences had an average package of INR 8 LPA while internships included offers from various educational institutes such as IITs and IISERs (Soumyadip Bank- M.Sc. in Chemical Sciences - Batch of 2026)

A: 

While admission to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bangalore) is highly competitive one can gain admission with consistent effort and preparation for JEE Main/ JEE Advance/ GATE/ COAP/ IIT JAM/ IISER Aptitude Test/ KVPY/ CEED exams.

After admission though the curriculum is advanced the faculty and course material is of high quality and allow students to rapidly learn and build a foundation in their course with hard work of course.

In short, one does not have to be extremely intelligent for admission or to understand the courses at IISc Bangalore.

Q:   Is IISc Bangalore tougher than IIT?
A: 

Yes, for admission to some of the programmes IISc Bangalore is way tougher than IITs. Also, the quality of education, research & development quality at IISc Bangalore has very high standards. IISc Bangalore has produced some of the most eminent personalities and has a very high registered patent record.

For getting admission to any of the courses offered at IISc Bangalore, candidates are required to take the entrance exams specified by the university and candidates having valid scores/ percentile will be selected for further admission process.

Q:   Is the CEED exam tough?
A: 

The difficulty level of CEED exam has been maintained by authorities over the years. However, most design aspirants share that if difficulty level of all design entrance exams conducted for PG level courses is compared then CEED is slightly easier than NID Entrance Exam. This is primarily because the drawing questions asked in NID that are considered to be tougher than those put forth in CEED exam. Note that CEED exam is for admission to the M.Des courses offered by the eight participating colleges. Meanwhile, the NID that for the M.Des programme has three participating colleges.

Q:   What is IISC CAT cutoff other than General Category?
A: 

At the PG level, IISC Bangalore offers Master of Management Programme through CAT. The aforementioned course is offered through the Management Department. Tabulated below are the IISC Bangalore CAT cutoff other than General Category:

Q:   In what mode will IISER 2026 aptitude test be conducted?
A: 

IISER is a compulsory entrance test to get into the IISER Pune. IISER 2026 entrance exam will be conducted in computer-based test mode. The duration of the entrance exam is three hours, from 9 AM to 12 noon.

Q:   What is the IISc Bangalore GATE cutoff 2026 for ECE (Electronics & Communication Engineering)?
A: 

IISc Bangalore GATE cutoff 2026 for the ECE course for the General AI category was 650 in round 1. For the OBC AI category, the round 1 cutoff for the same course was 600. This difference in the score says that the competiton for the General AI category was higher than the OBC AI quota.

For the General AI category, the round 1 cutoff ranged from 480 to 800, wherein MTech in Instrumentation Systems and MTech in Microelectronics and VLSI Design are the easiest and the hardest courses for admission, respectively.
