IISc Admission Process 2020: Important Dates, Eligibility, Application Process & Fee

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has announced the admission process for undergraduate, postgraduate and integradted PhD course admissions 2020.

IISc admissions have started. The application process for IISc admissions in UG, PG and integrated PhD courses started on February 1.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has announced the admission process for undergraduate, postgraduate and integrated PhD course admissions 2020. IISc application forms were released on February 1. Candidates are informed that admission in most of the courses on offer at IISc is by means of other national entrance exams. The courses in which IISc admission is offered through other entrance exams is as mentioned below:

IISc Eligibility Criteria

Candidates can go through the eligibility criteria for UG and PG course admissions at IISc below.

IISc Eligibility Criteria for UG Courses

Aspirants meet the eligibility criteria for UG courses on offer at IISc if they fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria:

  • Have completed II PUC/Class 12 in 2019.
  • Have completed II PUC/Class 12 in 2020 are eligible to apply.
  • Should have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects during II PUC/Class 12.
  • Should have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply.
  • Should have secured a first-class or 60% or equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates) in the II PUC/ Class 12 exam.

IISc Eligibility Criteria for PG Courses

Candidates meet the eligibility criteria if they possess second class (minimum) or equivalent in the following degrees:

Qualifying Degree

Qualifying in National Entrance Tests (Mode of Entry)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ 4-year Bachelor of Science

Valid GATE score* / NET JRF** is mandatory

Master’s degree in Science / Master’s degree in Economics, Geography, Psychology, Management, Commerce, Operations Research, Computer Science and Application

Valid GATE score / NET JRF is mandatory

Master’s degree in Engineering & Technology / Architecture/ Agriculture / Pharmacy / Veterinary Sciences

Desirable to have valid GATE score / NET JRF/GPAT

MS/MBA (post BE/BTech/MSc) – (applicable for the department of Management Studies/Ecological Sciences)

Desirable to have valid GATE score / NET JRF

Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Engineering/ Technology from any Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, with a minimum CGPA of 8.5 out of 10 or its equivalent (for PhD only)

Desirable to have valid GATE score / NET JRF

MBBS/MD

Desirable to have valid GATE score / NET JRF

B Pharma

Valid GPAT score / JRF

Bachelor’s degree holders in Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science /Electronics followed by qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE as being equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Valid GATE score / NET JRF is mandatory

*The GATE score should be valid as on 01 August 2020. Candidates securing the valid GATE score for the years 2018/2019/2020 may apply.

** NET JRF includes – Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; UGC-NET for JRF; DBT JRF; ICMR JRF; JEST; NBHM Screening Test 2020; INSPIRE fellow.

Applicants possessing a minimum of first-class or equivalent in Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent with a valid GATE 2018/ 2019/ 2020 or CAT 2019 or GMAT scores are eligible to apply

Aspirants have to fill the application form for IISc admissions online on the official website of the institute. Further, candidates need to pay the application fee for IISc admission online by means of net banking/ credit card/ debit card.

If you belong to the General AI category, the JEE Advanced cutoff rank required for B.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing was 856. Similarly, for B.Sc. (Research) specialisations, the cutoff rank required for admission in 2025 was 2263.

IISc Bangalore GATE cutoff 2026 for the ECE course for the General AI category was 650 in round 1. For the OBC AI category, the round 1 cutoff for the same course was 600. This difference in the score says that the competiton for the General AI category was higher than the OBC AI quota.

Yes, IISc Bangalore does offer M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering. IISc Bangalore offer M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering through Division of Mechanical Sciences. There are a total of 20 seats offered for MTech in Aerospace Engineering and you need to appear for GATE for being eligible to this course.

Yes, the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, accepts JAM for admission to Masters programme in Science. Candidates with a valid score in IIT JAM have to apply for admission through IISc Bangalore website.

IISc Bangalore offers admission to candidates based on their scores in the entrance exam. Candidates are selected for BSc via JEE Main, JEE Advanced, IISER Aptitude Test, NEET or KVPY scores. The institute also considers scores in GATE, IIT JAM, etc. for admission to other courses-BTech, MSc, MTech.
