What to Expect in CUET UG 2027?
What Changes to Expect in CUET UG 2027? NTA is reportedly planning to make some major changes in CUET 2027 exam. With the new structure, NTA plans to make the entrance exam "One Student, One Day" system. This means that, instead of taking the exam over two days, candidates will be able to appear for CUET UG exam for all selected subjects in one day only. This may also result in a reduction in exam duration to 40 or 45 minutes and number of questions to 35 or 40 questions. These changes have not yet been finalized. So, candidates are advised to keep an eye on the official website for any notice regarding the same.
National Testing Agency will conduct the Common University Entrance Test (UG) for 2027-28 admission cycle in May 2027. The mode of exam will be Computer Based Test. With NTA CUET UG scores, applicants can get admission to undergraduate courses at more than 280 participating CUET universities in India, including central, state, private, deemed, and government institutions. Changes Expected in CUET UG Exam 2027
Check below to know what changes are expected in Common University Entrance Test (UG) 2027:
Reduced Exam Duration
Earlier, the exam duration per subject was 60 minutes. As per current speculations, NTA is expected to reduce this duration to 40 or 45 minutes. With the reduced exam duration, NTA plans to reduce the time spent by a candidate at exam centre.
Less Number of Questions
It will be difficult to complete 50 questions in the reduced duration. Therefore, to manage this issue, the number of questions in CUET paper per subject is expected to be reduced to 35 or 40 questions. This will give candidates enough time to complete the exam within 40 or 45 minutes. However, there is no talk about any change in the marking scheme or total marks per subject.
Reduced Number of Maximum Subjects
According to previous year's exam pattern, candidates can choose maximum five subjects from the 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and general aptitude test, based on their target course and college. NTA is expected to reduce the maximum number of subjects to four only, making it easier to conduct the exam for a candidate in one day.
Single-Day Exam Per Candidate
Up until now, candidates who get their exam centres far from their permanent and/or temporary address find it difficult to commute to the allotted exam centre on multiple days, especially when the time gap between two exam dates is more than one or two days. To eliminate this issue, the exam conducting authority is proposing to conduct Single Day exam per student.
With reduced time, number of questions & maximum subjects, the objective of administering One Student, One Day exam seems possible.

As per the CUET UG exam pattern -
The question paper will include 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The CUET UG exam will be conducted for 13 languages, 23 domain subjects, and general test. Each subject will consist of 50 MCQs and there will be no optional questions. All questions are mandatory to attempt. For every wrong answer, a negative marking of one mark will be applied.
CUET normalisation procss refers to a process of adjusting scores inbterms difficulty between different sessions of CUET exam. The normalization process does not reduce marks for students. It aims to adjust scores. CUET Normalization might involve scaling scores, adjusting grade, or applying techniques to make sure that difficulty level of the assessment doesn't disadvantage any particular group of students.

CUET UG 2027 Difficulty Level (Expected)

CUET Commerce Difficulty Level
Commerce students usually opt for CUET UG subjects like English, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Mathematics, or General Aptitude Test. Among these subjects, students find Accountancy and Mathematics difficult to solve as they often have time-consuming and application-based questions. Business studies and Microeconomics section of Economic paper are generally easy to solve if a candidate has prepared thoroughly. Additionally, this year, Indian Economic Development has also been included in CUET economics syllabus. So, candidates are advised to learn all important dates, reforms, Acts, etc., to get a competitive score in exam.
CUET Science Difficulty Level
Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science are the most chosen subjects by science students. The difficulty level of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics question papers is moderate to high. These subjects include more application-based and analytical thinking questions, which consume the time, mind, and energy of a student during the exam.
CUET Arts Difficulty Level

NTA prescribes the CUET UG marking scheme. Check below to know the CUET UG marking scheme:
- Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Five marks (+5)
- Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1).
- Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).
- If more than one option is found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
- If all options are found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
- If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5) marks.
Common University Entrance Test (CUET) sample papers are released by the conducting body, National Testing Agency (NTA). To download the CUET question papers follow the steps below:

CUET UG question paper for each subject will consist of 50 questions. Candidates will be required to attempt all questions and no optional questions will be provided. In CUET UG, there are 37 subjects: 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and general tests. While filling the CUET application form, candidates can select up to five CUET subjects aligning with the subjects studied in class 12th and course requirements.
Candidates must attempt all the questions of the subjects selected. However, candidates must keep in mind the negative marking and select the options carefully.
CUET Total Score
National Testing Agency prescribes the marking scheme to calculate CUET total marks and raw scores of a candidate in each subject. As per the marking scheme, candidates will get 5 marks for every correct answer and -1 mark for every incorrect answer. There are 50 questions in each CUET subject, which means that the total score for one subject is 250 marks. Now, a candidate can select up to 5 subjects in CUET UG exam, which means that a candidate can either choose three, four or five subjects to get admission to their target university, based on their cut off marks, eligibility requirements and subject combination. In such cases, the total marks for each candidate will be different. Check below to know total marks in each of these cases:
- 3 subjects: 750 marks
- 4 subjects: 1000 marks
- 5 subjects: 1250 marks
It shows that the maximum total marks for a candidate can be 1250 marks.
Commonly asked questions
The CUET questions are objective in nature and carries four options also known as MCQs. Candidates will have to choose the correct answer option and click on it with the help of a mouse. Since CUET UG exam will be conducted in CBT mode, test-takers will be able to mark only one answer option.
UGC has announced the deletion of 26 subjects from CUET UG 2025 onwards. CUET UG 20 foreign languages and six domain subjects have been removed. Check the list below to know the name of the subjects:

Ideal CUET Score 2027
There is no ideal score for Common University Entrance Test. A good CUET score for every candidate can vary depending on their target course and university. NTA only conducts CUET UG exam and releases CUET result. The cut off marks of each course is announced by universities, separately. Therefore, a candidate must check their dream university’s expected CUET cut off to know what score range they should target to get admission. However, students can check below ranges to get an idea:
- Very Good Score: 900 and above (98-99 percentile)
- Good Score: 700-850 (90+ percentile)
- Average Score: 600-700 (80+ percentile)
- Low Score: 400-650 (<80 percentile)

Check the notice before you rely on it. You must qualify JEE Main or CUET for UPTAC. A news report says only candidates with a valid JEE Main 2026 rank could register. The special rounds list CUET (UG) 2026 along with JEE Main. So CUET may help only in some rounds. JEE Main is the safe choice.
