FRI (Forest Research Institute) Dehradun Entrance Exam 2026 has not been announced yet. And the notification will be released on the official website. Students are advised to  visit the website frequently to check the important dates. The examination conducting authority will declare the FRI admission process timeline for admissions to the MSc degree programs offered at the Forest Research Institute.

The FRI Entrance Exam application form is expected to be released in February 2026, tentatively. Before filling the registration form, students are also advised to check the FRI Exam 2026 eligibility criteria. The registration form will be filled out in offline mode, and students need to submit INR 1500 at the registrar's office.

Postal delay will not be accepted as a plea to entertain applications after the last date, which is likely to be in the month of  March 2026. FRI Entrance Exam Pattern 2026  will have around 200 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) asked from various domains like Basic Sciences, Arithmetic and Quantitative abilities, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, and English Comprehension. The exam authority will also specify the FRI Entrance Exam Syllabus for the candidates' preparation.

What is FRI Entrance Exam?

Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University conducts the FRI Entrance Exam to shortlist aspirants for master’s programmes offered by the institute. Based on a candidate’s score in the FRI Entrance Exam, he/she is shortlisted for admission in courses such as MSc Forestry, MSc Wood Science & Technology, MSc Environment Management, and MSc Cellulose & Paper Technology.

Following the country's restructuring of Forestry Research and establishment of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) in 1988, training and research institutions were declared as institutes in autonomous status. Forest Research Institute (FRI), which is now one of the institutes under ICFRE, was also granted Deemed University status in December 1991 on the recommendations of UGC, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The FRI Entrance Exam will be conducted for the objective of identifying the best-qualified candidate for admission to a number of master's and doctoral programs of Forest Research Institute (FRI) Deemed University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.

Students can go through the admission process for the FRI Entrance Exam 2026 below:

Step 1: Fill FRI Entrance Exam Application Form

The FRI application form 2026 will be downloaded from the University website www.fridu.edu.in. The students will have to submit the duly filled Application form along with a fee of INR1500/- in the form of a Demand Draft from any Nationalized Bank in favour of Registrar, FRI Deemed to be University, Dehradun.
(Forms received after the last date will not be accepted in any circumstances.) It is advised to send the application form by Registered Post, Speed Post/Courier. Postal delay will not be accepted as a plea to entertain applications after the last date.

Step 2: Get the FRI Entrance Exam Admit Card

The FRI entrance exam 2026 admit card will be sent to students at their registered email address. The hall ticket for Forest Research Institute comprises the candidate’s roll number as well as test centre details like address and code.

Step 3: Appear for the FRI Entrance Test

The FRI Entrance Exam will be conducted in online mode for the 2026-27 academic year, which is a Remote Proctored Entrance Examination. Students will have to appear for the entrance exam from their homes and take the exams from their laptops or desktops. Generally, as done in the past, students need to appear for the written exam for Forest Research Institute admissions as per the date, time, and test center address mentioned on their admit card. Candidates need to meet FRI Entrance Exam 2026 eligibility criteria as fixed by the Academic Council of Forest Research Institute.

MSc Forestry

Candidates meet the eligibility criteria for MSc Forestry course offered at Forest Research Institute if they possess Bachelor’s degree in Science with at least one of the subject from Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Forestry.

MSc Wood Science & Technology

Candidates meet the eligibility criteria for MSc Wood Science & Technology course offered at Forest Research Institute if they possess Bachelor’s degree with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or BSc degree in Forestry.

MSc Environment Management

Candidates meet the eligibility criteria for MSc Environment Management course offered at Forest Research Institute if they possess three years Bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied Sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Agriculture or BE in Environment Science.

MSc Cellulose & Paper Technology

Candidates meet the eligibility criteria for MSc Cellulose & Paper Technology course offered at Forest Research Institute if they possess three years Bachelors' Degree with minimum 50% marks in aggregate in Science with Chemistry as one of the subjects or if they have completed their BE/BTech (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with minimum 50% aggregate).

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Candidates meet Forest Research Institute entrance exam eligibility criteria if they possess at least 50% aggregate marks at the BSc level/MSc if they belong to General category and 45% if they belong to SC/ST category.

Age Limit for In-Service Candidates

The maximum age limit in respect of in-service candidate to MSc Environment Management course shall be 50 years. The age reckoned as on July 31 of the year of admission and no further relaxation will be given in any case.

The minimum qualifying marks for allowing candidate in appearing in the written test shall be 50 percent in aggregate at B.Sc. level/M.Sc. level prescribed for admission to the different courses in respect of general category candidates and 45 percent aggregate in respect of SC/ST candidate.

Candidates selected for written test based on the academic requirement will be informed of the date, time and venue of written test through a letter under certificate of posting duly signed by and bearing the official stamp of the FRI (Deemed) University Office.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for FRI Entrance Test?

  • Candidate to be called for the written test shall have a minimum qualification prescribed for the purpose for the various courses.

  • There will be a written test for admission to M.Sc. Courses and Post Master Diploma Course on the following subjects:

Q:   How are seats reserved to various categories for admissions to the master's degree programme at the Forest Research Institute?

Forest Research Institute has divided the seats available for the Masters degree programme under the following criteria:

  • SCHEDULED CASTES AND SCHEDULED TRIBES: Fifteen percent (15%) of the total available seats shall be reserved for scheduled castes and seven and half percent (7.5%) for scheduled tribe candidates subject to their being otherwise suitable.\
  • OTHER BACKWARD CLASSE (OBC): The reservation to OBC is being provided as per the policy of the Govt. of India as
    defined by National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
  • PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED: 3% reservation to the persons with Disabilities under the persons with Disabilities
    (Equal opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 Chapter
    No. 39.
  • IN-SERVICE CANDIDATES: Five seats shall be reserved in M.Sc. Environment Management course for in-service
