B.Tech. in Biotechnology - Batch of 2026
3.2
A college with average placement, improved infrastructure, and good (and strict) academics.
Placements: Most students get placed, but it all comes down to your skills and knowledge. If you have those skills, you will get placed. The highest package goes from INR 20 to 30 lacs if applied to non-core companies. This is because it's a research field where most of the students go for higher studies, and companies also demand more qualified students. Many students go for side options like preparing for government exams or learning coding to get placed in non-core companies; one of the seniors did a B.Tech. in Biotech but cleared GATE in the ECE department; some students here are quite good. So ultimately, there are many divergent paths other than the core field. For core companies, it's around INR 6 to 10 lacs. Biocon is the top recruiter for my branch.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure facilities are average; every facility is available: labs, classrooms, libraries, etc. Hostel facilities are average; some are old while others are new, but all hostels have basic facilities like a gym, study room, TV room, music room, etc. Coming to Mess, it's not the best but average; the food is good; some dishes are not restaurant-level, but they're good and edible. Canteens are also good, and medical facilities are available. For any problem, you get seamless and free treatment.
Faculty: Professors are qualified and knowledgeable; teaching quality is average; you have to make an effort to learn things; no spoon-feeding will be done. The course curriculum is relevant, but it is quite old. Students will be industry-ready if and only if they make an effort. Semester exams are quite hard, but students make way for themselves through last-night studies, and the pass percentage is high as most of the students pass.
Other: I chose Biotechnology as I was quite interested in it; I was not getting any circuital branches, so I preferred to go with the research field. The thing that must be improved is the curriculum; it's still very old and not up to high standards like those of foreign colleges. Events, hall fests, and clubs are abundant; every time something is happening in the college, if nothing else, then exams are going on.

I am satisfied with its placements, infrastructure, and facilities.
Placements: Almost 75% of students got placed in our course. The highest salary package offered was 15 LPA. The lowest salary package offered was 3 LPA.
Infrastructure: Our campus is excellent. The infrastructure is also good. Our classrooms are better. Hostel rooms are small. There are only 2 hostels for girls, and the food quality is average.
Faculty: Faculty members are good in our college. Our course curriculum is average. Teachers are also knowledgeable, helpful, and well-qualified. This course makes students ready for the industry. Semester exams are easy.

I am absolutely satisfied with the college life.
Placements: Biotechnology generally requires research oriented mind groups. A good section of passing out batch has cracked GATE and are willing to pursue M.Tech in biotechnology. However, some of them have shifted towards software field having a good record of placements.
Infrastructure: Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology department have their own building in NIT Rourkela specialising in different laboratories with ongoing large projects and research work. Professors and students coordinate the research work and publish research papers.
Faculty: Professors in our college are quite helpful, well qualified, and have done their PhDs from renowned universities. The course curriculum is designed in such a way that fresh students too find it easy to grasp new concepts about environment on molecular level. Semesters exams are not too hard to score a good GPA and pass criteria is above 6 GPA.
Other: I chose this course out of my interest and found certain better things about this course. In the course of time like practicals and observing tiny life of microorganisms. Events are organised in the college every now and then by the administration and club activating in college. The campus surrounding is very greenery and soothing to a depressed mind. There are 3 tests are organised each year by the SAC of college out of which one is tech-fest and the other two are cultural fests.

I am very satisfied as many students are placed, and enjoy their college life to a great extent.
Placements: Around 85-90% of students are placed, and other branch students are also placed. The maximum is placed in the IT software sector, not in core companies. So if students can get into higher branches like CS, electronics, and electrical there is a good chance of getting placed in the core sector. Chemical is also good about core placements.
Infrastructure: The facilities in the department are good, and the laboratories are very much advanced. If students are interested in the research sector in the biotechnology field then this college is good. Hostel facilities are good, and they provide a single room to every B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. student. About the Wi-Fi and internet, they provide LAN to every room which works fine.
Faculty: Faculty members are very much strict as it is NIT. Exams are also very tough. Students have to survive those conditions to make themselves better people who can tackle all the obstacles that will come in their life. The attendance system is also very strict. Students can leave twice the number of classes according to the credit after that they will face harsh penalties.
Other: Mega fests are held every semester. Spring fests and autumn fests are named NU and Innovision in this college.

The college is excellent, and there are great research opportunities.
Placements: About 85% of students get placed, and the rest opt for higher studies. The highest salary package offered is 17 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 3 LPA. The average salary package offered is 6.6 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Vedanta, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc., visit the college for placements. Almost all students got internships, and some students get internships in reputed institutions like TIFR, BARC, IISc Bangalore, etc. Biotech is one of its kind, with several students pursuing research internships abroad.
Infrastructure: It was established in 2007. The department is equipped with high-end instruments like UTMs, DSC, FTIR, Bioreactors, etc. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, and lawns are available. Labs and classrooms are good. Hostel facilities and quality of mess food are good as compared to other institutions. Sports facilities are one of the best here. Night canteen is also available. Medical facilities are available 24x7.
Faculty: Some teachers in our college are good. Almost all teachers are well-qualified. Their teaching quality is ordinary, like every government engineering institute. The course curriculum is relevant, and every professor has the right to design their own curriculum. It is a bit difficult to score a good CGPA here. It has a strict marking system. Almost all students are passed, but not all scored a good CGPA.

Good overall exposure to any individual. Lovely infrastructure.
Placements: Placement was nice. Almost 90% people got placed. The highest salary was around 25 LPA and the lowest was around 3 LPA. Almost everyone gets internships. Some of us bagged to many national and international programs. Generally software and service companies visit the campus but core companies also visit.
Infrastructure: We have one of the biggest campuses. Labs, classes, libraries etc. Were both operational and maintained. Hostel rooms were airy and well maintained but mess food were not at par. We had issue of air conditioning in classrooms but that has already been dealt with.
Faculty: Teachers and teaching quality were both good and relatable. However industry exposure was very limited and next to nil. Though internship was compulsory for the pre final years. Also the curriculum could have been more diverse and less theoretical.
Other: We had 3-4 major fests and several other fests like garden fest, hall function etc. Also there were several clubs and committees whose members were elected. We had full student activity centre for this.

NIT, Rourkela is the second best, and it is striving to be the leader in near future.
Placements: The placements are good on the campus. About 85% of the students got placed with an average salary package of around 6.5 LPA. However, the placements for our branch occur mostly in non-core sector mainly in analytics, software companies, coaching institutions, and others. The highest salary package offered was 14 LPA by Fidelity Investments. However, the highest package for the entire institute was 39.2 LPA by Adobe.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good on the campus. Even the best in comparison with the government institutes including IITs and NITs. Each lecture classroom is air-conditioned. The hostels are highly maintained, and the rooms are neat and clean. The departments are well-equipped with lifts.
Faculty: The faculty members are highly helpful, and they guide properly. The quality of teaching is good with the help of modern teaching methodologies. The faculty members encourage highly in research, and they allow access to their labs. They even stay in late hours and clear doubts.

Good placement in 2017-2018, Really good infrastructure and facilities, Below average faculty.
Placements: Placement for 2014-2018 (present) batch is good. Last year the placement was average (2013-2017) was average. This year around 80-85 % of the students registered were placed. The highest salary offered was 27 LPA (Lacs per annum) by Amazon. The average salary offered was 6-7 LPA. The lowest salary was offered by mass recruiter Infosys 3.25 LPA. Companies like Microsoft, Goldmann Sachs, Swiggy, Adobe, Wipro, Capgemini, JIO, SAP labs, Vedanta, ZS associates, Bridge i2i, Mu sigma visited the campus. Many PSUs like IOCL, HPCL, Bharat petroleum also visited the campus. Coaching centre like Akash, Resonance Roles offered to students were of Software engineer, Analysts, Graduate engineer trainee. Talking about internship around 40-50 % got internship from the college with a majority of them from software companies. The highest stipend was offered by Microsoft RS 45,000 per month. The lowest stipend was offered by a startup Walk RS 5,000 per month. Those students who could not get any paid internship were given unpaid internship in different research institutes by the placement cell. Yes, there is a placement cell and also a placement committee constituting representative students of all the Branches. Yes the placement cell of NIT Rourkela is very efficient as far as final placement is concerned but improvements are required to be made on the paid internships.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is really good. Classrooms are good but most of the classrooms do not have AC. Labs are good with all adequate types of machinery but sometimes the machines don't work properly. Internet connectivity is good. The academic area has Wi-Fi and the hostel area is connected with LAN. The Library is good with a collection of all kinds of books, journals and magazines. The library is central AC. The medical facility is good with a health centre in the campus itself. Institute has Tie-Up with 2 other big Hospital in the city. Quality of food in the canteen is good much better than other institutes canteen. Hostel Rooms are good, mostly single or double occupancy rooms. Rooms are well furnished.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers are qualified with most of them having PhDs and post-doctorate from renowned IITs. But the teachers here are not very helpful with only a few of them are helpful. As far as Knowledge is concerned I certainly doubt the knowledge of many teachers here with a very few teachers who have good knowledge. Teachers here are also very frustrated for reasons best known to them. Teaching quality can definitely be branded as below average. Conventional teaching methods like reading out from PPTs (prepared or even downloaded from the internet) were used. Very few teachers defer from this conventional method of teaching and teach properly. Student to teacher ratio is 10:1 with a plenty of teachers for all the branches. As far as the curriculum is concerned it is designed very nicely which certainly helps the students during their GATE exam. Overall there are certain teachers whose credibility of being here is also doubted.
Other: Different fest like Tech Fest, NITRUTSAV are organised at regular intervals. Events like celebrity night are also organised once every year. The place is though far from the main city but still, this place enjoys excellent connectivity. Campus surroundings are excellent with properly organised tree plantations all around. Scholarships are given to students of lower caste as well as students who are economically weak. Extracurricular Activities takes place throughout the year with different functions and competition organised.

Hi, With 221 Marks in JEE mains paper 2 exams and a good score in your class 12th, you have less chances to secure admission in NIT Rourkela - National Institute of Technology (NITRKL).

Hi Mausumi, As you have scored 48 percentile in JEE Mains exam 2019 and you belong to ST category so you are eligible to participate in the counselling process. Still getting a seat in NIT will be difficult with this score. So I will suggest you to apply for some other colleges also. Best of luck.
