NIT Trichy Admission 2026: Cutoff, Application, Courses, Eligibility & Selection

NIT Trichy offers two-year M.Tech programmes in 23 specialisations. The course is available in specialisations, including Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Power Electronics, Data Analytics, Environmental Engineering, VLSI Systems, etc. Admission to all these courses is entrance-based. For last year, the closing rank for BTech in Civil Engineering was 22809 which is very close to this range. This was for the General category under the All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission. Since the cut-offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission to NIT Trichy - National Institute of Technology.

Aspirants with a BTech degree with at least 60% aggregate can apply for M.Tech at NIT Trichy. For admission to MTech, candidates must have a valid score of GATE, which shall be equal to or higher than the cutoff. Selected candidates further are called for CCMT Counselling. Interested candidates must apply for the GATE exam and counselling within the due date.

According to the past three years' round 1 cutoff data, we can say that the competition for the General AI category has been fluctuating.

The NIT Trichy CSE cutoff 2026 was 1219. In 2025 and 2024, the cutoff for the same course and round was 1620 and 1501, respectively. Tabulated below are the year-wise round 1 cutoff ranks for the General AI category.

 To get admission to MCA course at NIT Trichy, students must be graduated with minimum 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA in BSc/ BSc (Hons)/ BCA/ BIT with Mathematics/Statistics/Equivalent subject as one of the subjects. Students who are graduated with BE/B Tech or equivalent from a recognised University can also apply for this course. However, a five percent of relaxation is give to candidates who belong from SC/ ST categories. These candidates are required to obtain minimum of 55% or 6.0 CGPA in their respective graduation. Aspirants must pass BE/ BTech degree with at least 60% aggregate or CGPA of 6.5 or above (55% aggregate or 6.0 CGPA or above for SC/ ST/ PwD) to apply for MS (Research) course at NIT Trichy.

NIT Trichy offers MBA course across seven specialisations. These are Human Resource Management, Marketing, Finance, Production and Operations, Business Analytics, Information systems and IT Consulting and General Management. All the MBA courses are offered in full-time mode through DOMS NIT Trichy. The admission process for all MBA specialisations are same. Candidates willing for admission to MBA at NIT Trichy must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria and qualify for CAT entrance exam.

Candidates securing zero or negative marks either in Mathematics or in Total Marks in NIMCET test are going to be disqualified. Based on the marks obtained by a qualified candidate in NIMCET test, a rank will be allotted by adopting the following criteria.

• The marks obtained in Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and English will be summed up. Thus, the maximum weighted marks will be 1000.
• Ranking will be based on the total weighted marks a candidate obtains.

Once the CAT application form is submitted, candidates are not allowed to make changes in it. In case, you've made errors, you need to fill a fresh CAT application form and pay the fees again. However, editing of certain fields such as photo, signature and test city preference is allowed during form correction process which starts 2-3 days after the CAT registration process concludes. The form correction window is opened for 3-4 days during which candidates can edit only these three fields. If they have made a mistake in any other field, they cannot edit it. No request for changes is accepted by the examination authorities. Thus, it is very important to fill the CAT application form correctly with valid details. Candidates must keep the important documents such as Aadhaar card, class 10, class 12, graduation certificates, birth Certificate address proof, work experience documents, etc. To cross check the information while filling the form. They must also be very careful in selecting Iims and courses as they will be eligible for only those Iims and courses which they shall have selected in the CAT form.

For 2022, the cut off was 7307 for General category candidates in All India quota for BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in NIT Trichy - National Institute of Technology. For female candidates in the General category under All India quota 8324 was the closing rank. The BTech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

Yes, NIT Trichy does have an HS quota. For the OBC AI category, the round 1 cutoff ranged from 103 to 7219, according to the NIT Trichy JEE Main cutoff 2026. 

For the OBC HS quota, the round 1 cutoff varied from 312 to 8794 for BArch and BTech course branches. Considering the cutoff range for both quotas, we can say that the OBC HS quota had slightly more lenient ranks.
