NIFT 2021 Exam Analysis for CAT
Taking up the Creative paper questions for M Des in the NIFT entrance exam 2021:
Ques 1. Illustrate a poster on any one:
(a) three Rs (b) against air pollution (c) anti ragging
These were some fairly expected and often practiced topics on posters which are popular across various creative assessment platforms. For a poster to stand out, it’s imperative that the concept is well thought out beyond the obvious phrase used in the question and also ensure it is captioned smart. Quality of illustration should match the standards expected of the Masters candidates.

Ques 2. Would be somewhat like “Depict one memorable day in given 4 frames, the scenario of the given topics putting yourself in year 2030:
(a) canteen of the college (b) farm house in farmland
Here it is important to visualise the kind of change we can expect in our lifestyle nine years down the line and how these two spaces would change in terms of the role they play, services they provide, the kind of people they would attract; and if we would be there, what would we expect from these places and for what reasons would we frequent them.
Also, since it’s about pictorial documentation of one memorable day, we could even imagine some interesting story to tell, make it funny or high on adventure or emotion or tragic or some surprise element thrown in to the day with us playing the protagonist to the story. A good blend of both these aspects would make an answer stand out. Good rendering requirements go without saying, of course!
Ques. 3. Depict your personality through a product/ colour/ fruit/ vegetable or insect.
Incidentally, one must have come across while practicing for a design entrance under an experienced mentor this question. The approach to this question lies in first doing the keyword mapping of your own personality analysis in terms of tangibles and intangibles alike.
Example: Our height, built, our physical strength or fragility, our memory, retention, reflexes, interests, our psychological traits, our social traits, our intellectual traits, our ambition or contentment levels, etc. once we have identified our own traits, we should next find a connect with any of the given option segments that can best represent our dominant traits or the traits that we want to display through the question.
Good illustration with logical explanation regarding the fit of colours, textures used and how the traits of the chosen mode of depiction tallies with our personality should be justified.
Parameters for NIFT shortlist

Those shortlisted would now go to the second stages of Situation test (for B. Des.) & GDPI ( for M Des, M FTech & MFM), which would further comprise of 20 per cent for former and 30 per cent for the later, in the final merit list. For the B FTech, however Written is the only and decisive exam and their merit in the same will reveal if they get a call for admission counselling.
The rest of these processes would be held as per the timeline outlined by NIFT, however, we must keep ourselves prepared for any change in the timeline given the delays in class 12 board exams.
Wishing All the Luck once again!
