GATE Civil 2022 Paper Analysis: Highlights

To be eligible for IIT Kharagpur's Joint MTech/MCP PhD programme, candidates need a BE/BTech/BArch degree or a master's in Science/Arts with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Qualifications from exams by recognised professional societies are also accepted. Applicants must have a valid GATE score relevant to their qualifying discipline, and in the absence of a specific GATE paper, XE/XL/XH papers can be considered. NET-qualified candidates with a fellowship in MA/MSc Economics/Sociology/Geography, having studied Mathematics/Statistics, are eligible for MCP-PhD.

- Overall, the paper was of a moderate level.
- The aptitude section was the most difficult.
- Most of the questions were from Soil, Environment and Highway.
- The mathematics section had more questions from the Series.
- There were some unique problems in the GATE question paper.
Sahil Sharma: The paper was of moderate level. Some of the questions in the aptitude were a bit difficult. Questions were based on commonly asked topics such as Soil, Environmental and Highway. There were some unique questions in the paper this year. In Maths, questions from Series was asked.
Jignesh: I think the paper was moderate. There were questions from Soil, Highway and more. There was one question from Matrix.
Amit: The paper was quite easy but the aptitude questions were a bit difficult. There were quite a good number of questions from Environmental and the Maths section was also okay. There were 5-6 Multiple Select Questions and there were more MCQs and NATs.
The cut off rank in Round 6 for B.Tech. (Hons.) in Computer Science and Engineering is 279 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kharagpur - Indian Institute of Technology.
Sunny Kumar: The paper was moderate and the aptitude was more on a logical side. Mathematics had more questions and were moderate in difficulty level. The paper weightage was equally distributed.
Yash: The CE paper of GATE 2022 was moderate in terms of difficulty. The topics were equally distributed and the paper was quite easy as compared to the previous year.

No, it is not mandatory to attempt all questions in GATE. Attempt only those which you are sure of, as the exam follows negative marking. However, you can still put some guesswork for NATs and MSQs, as there is no negative marking for this.
