While preparing for these competitive exams, what I have realized is the time fixed by you to prepare a particular subject should match with the nature of the subject. However, it varies from person to person and depends upon your strong and weak areas in academics.
Kerela Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) exam is a state-level exam conducted every year by the Kerala state government. As the name of the exam suggests, it is the gateway for admission in various fields such as Engineering, Medical, Architecture and various other allied courses like Agriculture and Forestry.

KEAM Exam Pattern
KEAM is an offline exam of two and a half hours for each paper. It has two papers one is for Physics and Chemistry and the other is for Mathematics. Combining both the questions papers, you will get 240 multiple-choice questions – 120 questions for each paper. The evaluation will be done for 480 marks. There are four marks for each correct answer and one negative mark for each wrong answer. Candidates interested in taking admission for B Pharma will be writing paper one only that is Physics and Chemistry. They are not required to write a paper for Mathematics.
KEAM Syllabus
KEAM Syllabus is on the guidelines of CEE, Kerala. A major portion of the paper comes from class twelve. Instead of writing each topic here, I would like to suggest that for Physics and Chemistry, go through the NCERT books and for Mathematics I would suggest you, prepare each concept, which comes under the following major topics: Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics and Calculus.
Physics and Mathematics are two such subjects, which actually need lots of practice to do. In my opinion, the preparation of exams like KEAM does not require more than three months of preparation. Divide the total syllabus into two parts for both the subjects. Try to complete part one of both the subjects in the first month of your preparation and part two in the second month of your preparation. The third month can be used for the purpose of revision. The first fifteen days for revising part one of both the subjects and the last fifteen days for revising part two. Here I would like to suggest one more thing, keeping separate time for revision is fine but the revision is also required along with your preparation. Say for example today you have completed part A of topic one. Tomorrow before starting with the next part of topic one, you should revise the previous topic you have completed. Therefore, every day before starting a new topic you need to revise all the topics you have prepared earlier. This regular revision will make your final revision easy, effective and efficient.
Physics and Mathematics both are formula-based. Retention of these formulas in mind is the most important concern and that totally depends upon your practice and regular revision. Make a record of all the formulas in a small notebook or diary and try to keep it with you all the time and keep revising as and when you get time. The almost same philosophy goes for Chemistry. The periodic table is the most important topic to prepare. Different chemical equations not only require practice to solve but also need analytical bent of mind as in Physics and Mathematics.
KEAM Preparation Tips
While preparing for these competitive exams, what I have realized is the time fixed by you to prepare a particular subject should match with the nature of the subject. However, it varies from person to person and depends upon your strong and weak areas in academics.
- Subjects like Physics and Mathematics require lots of practice whereas Chemistry needs lots of retention capability.
- My personal experience says subjects where you need to mug up the content should be prepared early in the morning whereas subjects where only and only practice is needed can be prepared during the nighttime.
- Do not fix a very tight schedule, which becomes difficult to follow sometimes and that leads you nowhere but towards the confusion.
- Two hours of preparation and half an hour of revision every day for each subject is good enough to achieve success in this exam.
