What is NATA Exam?

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a national-level aptitude entrance exam for admission into the first year of the 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree program across India. Unlike standard academic tests, it measures specific cognitive skills, visual perception, aesthetic sensitivity, logical reasoning, and critical thinking abilities.

Additionally, qualifying for NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 is an essential statutory mandate to seek admission into any CoA-approved architectural institution, state-level government college, or private university across India.

Instead, individual state admission authorities or separate institutions carry out independent counseling rounds. For BArch admissions, the qualified candidates will have to apply at their preferred colleges individually. There are 365 colleges (including one international campus) that accept NATA scores for admission into their 5-year BArch programs. Some of the colleges for Barch admissions through NATA scores are - World University of Design, R V School of Architecture, RVCE, Bangalore, School of Architecture and Planning, VMRF, Chennai, Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, JMI, New Delhi, etc. The typical state-level counseling procedure is outlined below:

  • Qualified candidates must manually monitor and log into individual state portals (such as DTE, CAP, or specific university sites) to fill out their respective application profiles.

  • Candidates select and lock in their choices of architecture schools, design institutions, and state universities based on personal priorities.

  • Regional systems allot seats to individuals using their calculated NATA score merit indices alongside category reservation matrices.

  • Complete online reporting: This includes:

    • Payment of structural institutional seat confirmation fees.
