CTET Exam Pattern 2025: The CTET exam comprises two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 is for Classes 1 to 5 teachers and Paper 2 is for Classes 6 to 8 teachers. The CTET Paper 1 includes questions from Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies subjects. Q:   Is there any negative marking in the CTET exam?

No, there is no negative marking in the CTET examination. Candidates are awarded one mark for every correct answer in the exam and there is no deduction for wrong answers or unattempted questions. The reason behind the 'no negative marking' policy is that the CTET is an eligibility exam and not a recruitment exam.

The difference between Paper 1 and Paper 2 in CTET is: 1. The CTET Paper 1 is for those teaching aspirants who wish to teach at the primary level, I. e. , classes 1 to 5. 2. Paper 2 is for candidates who are eligible to teach Classes 6 to 8. 3. You can appear for Paper 1 after completing your 12th grade or equivalent. You also need a Diploma in elementary education. 4. CTET Marking Scheme for Paper 1

One mark is awarded for every correct answer in the exam. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in the exam. 

Nature & Standard of Questions in CTET Paper 1

Questions in Paper 1 are based on topics prescribed in the NCERT syllabus for Classes 1 to 5. However, the difficulty level of questions can be up to the secondary level.

  • Questions in Child Development and Pedagogy subject of Paper 1 focus on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years
  • Questions in Language I focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction 
  • Questions in Language II focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. It may be noted that language-II should be different than language-I. Candidates need to choose any one language as Language I and other as Language II from the options available in the table below:

Q:   Which subject holds maximum weightage in CTET exam?
A: 
Almost all the sections of the CTET exam hold equal weightage. In CTET Paper 1, all subjects including Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies hold equal weightage. However, in CTET Paper 2, the Mathematics & Science and Social Studies/Social Science section holds maximum weightage of 60 marks.
Q:   What is the duration of the CTET exam?
A: 
CTET exam is of 2 hours 30 minutes duration for each paper. The CTET exam is conducted in two shifts on each exam date. The CTET Shift 1 starts from 9:30 am to 12 noon and Shift 2 is from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The examination is conducted online in the computer-based test (CBT) mode in each shift. There is no limit to the number of attempts the CTET exam. Candidates falling within the CBSE-prescribed age limit can appear for the exam for any number of times. The upper age limit is prescribed by the recruiting agency at the time of recruitment after the candidate qualifies the CTET exam.
