The syllabus for the BA in English at Delhi University has core subjects, ability enhancement compulsory subjects, and general elective subjects. Other private universities also have the core subjects, while electives may differ as per the institute. The cutoff for admission to BA courses at Delhi University is among the highest in India.   • Examination Pattern

The examination pattern for BA in English includes an internal assessment of 20 marks, of which 10 marks are for reading and writing skills, while 10 marks are for speaking and listening. The final examination or end semester assessment is for 75 marks, and 5 marks are reserved for Grammar.

Admission to most BA programmes is through the marks obtained by the applicant in the 10th and 12th standards. Some prestigious colleges and those offering specialisations conduct an entrance test for BA courses. Some of the prominent entrance examinations for English courses are:

  • Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET)

It is a computer-based test with 100 multiple-type questions. It is a multiple-choice type exam with four marks for each correct answer and one negative mark for a wrong answer. The exam includes general awareness, current affairs, general knowledge, communication skills in English, logical reasoning and analytical ability. The difficulty level of the exam is 10+2 level.

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE)

The JNUEE is conducted for admission to courses in JNU with a total of 100 questions. The exam duration is 3 hours, and the difficulty level is moderate. The exam tests general knowledge, artificial language, language aptitude and general English.

  • Christ University Entrance Test (CUET)

CUET is conducted for admission to programmes at Christ University. The total marks for the exam are 120, with 40 marks for common English, 20 for General Knowledge, 10 for Current Affairs, 20 for Reasoning, and 30 for English literature. The exam difficulty is easy to moderate.

Syllabus for Distance Program in English

A regular BA degree programme includes physically attending college and learning through regular lectures at a specific time. With distance programmes, students can attend classes at their convenience and at their favoured time. Some prominent institutions that offer distance programmes in English include Lovely Professional University and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The syllabus for both regular and distance courses is almost the same, as both courses are recognised by AICTE and UGC.
