AIBE Preparation Tips from Qualifiers

AIBE Preparation Tips from Qualifiers

Bar Council of India (BCI) conducts the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). It is a qualifying exam for advocates or law graduates (2009 onwards) to check their skills and their preparedness to practice in court officially. The bar examination, which was first initiated in 2011, has no limitations on the number of attempts lawyers can make to qualify, since it is mandatory to get a ‘Certificate of Practice’.

AIBE Exam, however, has become a tough exam to crack as it is no longer an open-book exam. Many candidates fail to qualify for the examination (although, mostly by a narrow margin only) because it is not clear what topics from AIBE syllabus will be asked in the question paper.

The BCI has announced that it will conduct the AIBE 21 Exam 2026 on June 7, 2026. Candidates must fill the AIBE 21 Application Form 2026 on or before April 30, 2026. With such few months left, candidates must start their AIBE Preparation. Shiksha brings here AIBE preparation tips from qualified candidates to help you prepare well for the upcoming exam.

The AIBE 21 exam date 2026 was announced in AIBE Notification. All India Bar Examination XXI 2026 will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode. Read below preparation tips from AIBE-qualified candidates to get some insights on the upcoming exam.

Adv. Shuchita Raj

In an exclusive interview with Shiksha.com, Adv. Suchita Raj said that AIBE exam should not be taken lightly anymore. The level of the exam has definitely evolved and it now expects a certain level of preparation. It is no longer an exam where one can walk in casually and expect to clear it. I don’t intend to create fear, but preparation is necessary.

Even a small mistake in understanding a line or a single word can change the entire meaning of a question. That is why CPC demanded extra time and careful reading from me. Along with this, studying judgments was also quite challenging. It was not just about remembering outcomes but about understanding the facts, issues and reasoning of the courts.

Nishant Chamoli

Nishant cleared the AIBE Exam on his first attempt. He says, "CRPC (the Code of Criminal Procedure) and CPC (the Code of Civil Procedure), were challenging as those two are procedural laws, and one needs to have a basic understanding of them to go forward and understand the question in itself, as well as the case study-based questions."

Prep tips for AIBE candidates:

those appearing in the AIBE Exam shouldn’t be stressed about the same, because if they have done satisfactorily in their college time they will be able to pass the exam easily as only bare minimum is required to clear the same but one shouldn’t take it too lightly, because there is a reason many people have failed this year maybe they had taken it for granted. Secondly, you should be carrying the Bare Acts with you, and you must know how to quickly read the Bare Acts and be on the section or the page you are required to be on to solve the particular question and one shouldn’t worry about the time given, cause trust me it's already too much.

Q:   Can I appear for AIBE Exam in hindi?
A:

The BCI conducts the AIBE Exam in 11 languages. One of the language is hindi too. Hence, candidates have an option to appear for the exam in hindi too.

Q:   Can I practice in court without CoP?

The AIBE syllabus is considered moderate in difficulty, focusing on fundamental legal concepts rather than complex, specialised knowledge. However, since it is no more the open-book exam, candidates have huge syllabus to cover.

No. As per the BCI rules, candidates can not practice in the court of law until they have a certificate of practice. The CoP will be issued only to those who clear the AIBE Exam.
