Functions of Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh
The functions of BCUP in simple language have been mentioned below:
- Enrolling and regulating advocates
- Promoting law reform
- Providing legal aid
- Protecting the rights and interests of advocates

Why do I have to enrol in Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh?
If you have completed either 5-year LLB or 3-year LLB you need to reigster with your state bar council to appear in the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). Once you pass the exam, you will receive the “Certificate of Practice” which is mandatory to practice in the court.
Documents Required for Registration to Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh
To register to the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, the following documents are required:
- Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets
- LLB passing certificate and marksheets of all semesters + Consolidated marksheet
- For 3yr LLB - Graduation degree certificate + LLB degree certificate
- For 5yr LLB - Degree certificate / Provisional certificate
Note: If you are still waiting for your provisional certificate for your five-year LLB programme or 3-year LLB programme, you may obtain an affidavit from your college's office that states your situation and the date you expect to receive your provisional certificate. You can then submit this document to the State Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.

Eligibility for Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh Registration

- Must have passed 5-year LLB or 3-year LLB to register for the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.
- There is no minimum requirements of marks for the registration to this State Bar Council.
- There is no minimum or maximum age limit to register for BCUP.
- However, they need to at least 21 years old to enroll in the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.

You need to follow these steps:
- Go to the official website and download the registration form.
- You can also purchase the BCPU registration form from your district court in Uttar Pradesh. For your reference, the PDF of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh registration form has been provided below:

- Also, keep five passport-size photos of yours in the professional attire of an advocate.
- Attach these photocopies with your BCPU registration form and affix your passport-size photos to the form where required.
- Purchase a blank stamp paper of worth INR 500 and an affidavit worth INR 10 from your district court.
- There will be pleadings or declarations (shapath patra in Hindi) for nineteen points on your BCPU registration form.
- Write pleadings or declarations on the affidavit of INR 10 as they are. These pleadings are usually mentioned on the form in Hindi.
- Also, attach the blank stamp paper and the affidavit at the end of your registration form.
- Create two photocopies of the form along with the attached documents.
- Get the original copy of the form and the documents attached with it attested by an advocate who has practiced law for at least 10 years and is enrolled with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.
- You can also get your form and documents attested by a judge or magistrate.

Yes, final-year and final-semester LLB students can apply for AIBE 21. Eligible students must have no backlogs and be in their final year of a 3-year or 5-year LLB course from a BCI-recognized university.
