What is AIBE Certificate of Practice (CoP)?

The AIBE exam serves as a gateway to get Certificate of Practice (CoP). The Law graduates will be required to enrol with their respective State Bar Council (SBC) on a provisional basis. However, to obtain the CoP, aspirants will have to appear for the AIBE exam. They will have to complete the Bar Council of India registration process. The registration process include filling the AIBE application form and paying the fee.

A Certificate of Practice is issued by the Bar Council of India under Section 24(1)(b) of the Advocates Act, 1961. It confirms that an individual is qualified and can practice law in any Indian Court. It is issued to those who successfully clear the AIBE exam. The BCI has made it mandatory that all advocates obtain a CoP within three years of their provisional enrollment with a State Bar Council.

The AIBE syllabus is considered moderate in difficulty, focusing on fundamental legal concepts rather than complex, specialised knowledge. However, since it is no more the open-book exam, candidates have huge syllabus to cover.

No. As per the BCI rules, candidates can not practice in the court of law until they have a certificate of practice. The CoP will be issued only to those who clear the AIBE Exam.
