The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati has signed an MoU with Kia India to foster engineering excellence, drive research-led innovation, and develop future-ready talent in automotive and industrial engineering. As part of the partnership, Kia India will invest INR 35 crore over five years (2025–2029) to support academic infrastructure, joint research, and student initiatives, positioning IIT Tirupati as a hub for advanced manufacturing, electric mobility, and sustainable automotive technologies.
The MoU establishes a robust framework for collaboration, featuring an internship program with Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) to strengthen industry-academia integration and offer students valuable career opportunities at Kia India. It also includes scholarships and financial aid for deserving M.Tech students, based on merit and financial need, to promote inclusive access to advanced education and resources.
Makers Laboratory
A key highlight of the partnership is the establishment of a dedicated ‘Makers Laboratory’ at IIT Tirupati, a state-of-the-art collaborative space aimed at fostering cross-disciplinary innovation. This facility will empower students to conceptualise, design, and build functional prototypes, reinforcing the institute’s position as a centre for cutting-edge research and applied technology development.
Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO, Kia India, said, "This partnership is not merely the signing of an MoU, it is the coming together of shared values and a unified vision for the future of mobility and engineering in India. At Kia, we firmly believe in the transformative power of education, research, and collaborative innovation. By joining forces with IIT-Tirupati, we aim to nurture highly skilled engineers and technologists, equipped to lead advancements in sustainable mobility and industrial manufacturing. Together, we are building more than infrastructure, we are building opportunities, capabilities, and a foundation for meaningful societal impact.”
Prof. K. N. Satyanarayana, Director, IIT-Tirupati, said, "We are delighted to partner with Kia India in this forward-looking collaboration, which resonates deeply with our commitment to research excellence and nation-building. This initiative will provide our students with exposure to global industry practices, global learning opportunities, and advanced infrastructure. Beyond academic benefits, this partnership signifies our joint resolve to contribute to India’s aspirations in sustainable industrial development and technological leadership.”
IIT Tirupati welcome aspirants from ASEAN countries to apply for PhD fellowships.
