DTU to spearhead collaboration in digital education, sustainability, and skill development

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the role of Delhi Technological University (DTU) in driving digital education, sustainability, and skill development while calling for a comprehensive approach to making Delhi cleaner. Speaking at the inauguration of 'Wisdom on Wheels' at the NDMC Convention Center, he urged DTU and its 15 departments to take the lead in applied and emerging global skills.

The event, hosted by DTU, saw the launch of 'Wisdom on Wheels' with PayTm, an initiative aimed at promoting digital literacy by equipping a mobile education unit with computers and educational resources. The platform will allow DTU students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD scholars, to serve as interns and mentors in digital education programs.
Highlighting DTU’s potential, Pradhan called on its departments to introduce 25 new courses within the next two years, focusing on digital competence, 3D printing, applied sciences, and global-standard skill training. He emphasized that engineering institutions like DTU should play a pivotal role in fostering industry collaborations and preparing students for the digital economy.
On the subject of Delhi’s cleanliness, Pradhan stressed that addressing the capital's challenges requires a scientific approach involving civil engineering, instrumentation, and digital technologies. He urged DTU to take the lead in designing a structured framework in collaboration with institutions like IIT Delhi, Delhi University, and other engineering colleges. Notably, the BJP, the party to which Pradhan belongs, has formed the government in Delhi and is also in power at the central level, positioning the minister’s vision within the broader governance framework.
"DTU should be at the forefront of developing an SOP for a clean Delhi. This is not just about governance but about hardcore science, engineering, and technology. It is time for DTU to take responsibility and set an example," he said.
The event was also attended by Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO of Paytm, along with other dignitaries and senior academics. Sharma, an alumnus of DTU, shared his journey as a digital entrepreneur and emphasized the importance of fostering innovation and disruption in India’s financial and technology sectors.
Pradhan concluded by reinforcing his vision for DTU to be a hub of transformative education, bridging traditional learning with modern skill sets to make a meaningful impact on society.
Q:   Is it worth pursuing BTech at DTU?
A:

DTU ranked 29 under the 'Engineering' category by the NIRF 2023. There are many IITs ranked before DTU under the same category. Also, it competes against the top-notch NITs and second-phase IITs in several specialisations of BTech. Hence, it is safe to say that DTU is as good as an IIT or an NIT in northern India. In fact, The Times Rankings 2022 ranked DTU number 1 in the Delhi NCR region for 'Engineering' category.

DTU BTech students are placed in top companies like Samsung, Microsoft, Zomato, and others. Also the BTech fee is not very high. To clear JEE Main, candidates must study according to the JEE Main syllabus and appear for as many JEE Main mock tests as possible.
