NIMCET 2026 exam pattern is going to be released at nimcet.admissions.nic.in. 

The NIMCET exam pattern includes details such as examination mode, duration, sections, question types, total number of questions, marking scheme, etc. According to the exam pattern, NIMCET 2026 will be conducted as a computer-based test. Yes. NIMCET is an entirely online test or a computer-based test. It is going to be conducted at various exam centres. During the test, candidates can check the questions on the computer, select the correct answer and submit. No physical question papers will be available for NIMCET.

The NIMCET exam will be of 2 hours duration. The paper is divided into three parts. If a candidate selects more than one answer for a question, it will be negatively marked.

  • The authorities will conduct the NIMCET 2026 exam online, i.e., as a computer-based test.
  • For every question, four options will be given. The correct option has to be selected and submitted.
  • All sections should be completed within the allotted time.
  • Candidates can use the test booklet for rough work and calculations. No other paper will be allowed for rough work.
  • Since there is negative marking, candidates are advised not to attempt questions they are unsure of. 
  • Providing multiple answers to a single question will result in negative marking.

Q:   Is it mandatory to attempt every question of NIMCET?
A: 

No, you do not need to attempt all questions of the NIMCET. If you are not confident, do not answer it. Please note there is negative marking for each incorrect answer. 

 

Q:   Will there be any breaks during the NIMCET exam duration?
A: 

No, there will not be any break during the NIMCET exam. The NIMCET exam will be conducted with a single paper containing 120 MCQs. After the candidate finishes one segment, another will pop immediately, so there will be no scope for break.

 

 

 

Q:   Do they provide any rough sheet for calculations for NIMCET question paper?
A: 

Yes, extra sheets are provided to the NIMCET candidates for rough work or calculations. Keep in mind that you would need to submit those rough sheets at the end of the exam to the invigilators.

Q:   Is calculator allowed in NIMCET exam?
A: 

No, calculator or any other electronic equipment such as mobile phones, pagers, etc. will not be allowed to carry to the NIMCET exam centre. Candidates need to report at the examination hall in the allotted test center with admit card before one hour as NIMCET is an online examination, the candidates are required to follow the instructions given at the test center for entry and allotment of terminal. 

Q:   Will there be papers or sheets provided to do rough work or calculations for NIMCET?
A: 

Yes, papers will be provided to the NIMCET candidates for doing rough work or calculations. Candidates have to submit the same at the end of the exam to the invigilators. The authorities released the NIMCET exam pattern along with the brochure on the official website. With the help of the exam pattern, candidates will be able to check details on the pattern in which the NIMCET paper is structured and also the marking scheme. It is advised for the candidates to check the exam pattern and strategize accordingly for the preparation of the NIMCET exam.

Ideally, you should start preparing at least six months before the exam date. The NIMCET 2026 exam date has not been announced yet, however, the tentative examination date is around June 2026, making now a perfect time to start preparing for it. NIMCET exam pattern along with the brochure will soon be released on the official website at nimcet.admissions.nic.in.

You must familiarise yourself with the NIMCET exam pattern and syllabus to identify the key topics, time limit, question paper format, and types of questions covered. 

Q:   Will there be any partial marking in NIMCET on the basis of the steps taken to derive the answer, even if the final answer is wrong?
A: 

No, there is no step marking in NIMCET. Each correctly answered question will be awarded full marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to 25% negative mark. The candidates are advised not to attempt such questions if they are not sure of the correct answer. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if a question is unanswered. More than one answer indicated against a question will be negatively marked. The candidates have to mark the responses as per the instructions appearing in the screen of NIMCET online examination.

Q:   What is the duration of NIMCET paper?
A: 

The NIMCET paper duration is 2 hours. Please note that there is no provision for extra time to complete the question paper. We advise candidates to take up mock tests to improve their time management skills.

No. You cannot manually convert CGPA to percentage or vice-versa to qualify. If your university uses a 10-point scale, a 6.5 CGPA is the minimum requirement for General/OBC candidates.

Here is how you can determine if your NIMCET score is good -

Score Possible Rank What This Means 
360+Top 100Excellent: You can likely pick any top NIT you want, like the popular ones in Trichy or Warangal.
300 - 359101 - 500Very Good: You have a high chance of getting into a strong NIT.
240 - 299501 - 1500Good Goal: You can likely secure a spot in a mid-tier NIT.
Below 120Low ChancesDifficult: Getting a seat at any NIT is very unlikely with this score.

The NIMCET application edit window usually opens 2-3 days after the last day of application. Historically, it opens for 2 days within which applicants can make any edits in their application if required. Please note that no requests in this regard shall be entertained thereafter.
