NEET PG 2025 Postponed by Supreme Court Order: Student Associations Demands Urgent Action and Accountability

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has postponed the NEET PG 2025 examination, originally scheduled for June 15, 2025, following a Supreme Court directive mandating that the NEET PG 2025 exam be conducted in a single shift.
The abrupt announcement, made on the evening of June 2, 2025, just 12 days before the scheduled date, has left over 2 lakh NEET PG aspirants grappling with uncertainty and frustration, as NBEMS has yet to provide a new exam date.
The Student Federation of India (SFI) has strongly criticized the postponement, accusing NBEMS of systemic mismanagement and inadequate planning. The NEET PG exam, a critical gateway for postgraduate medical education in India, has faced repeated disruptions in recent years.
Last year, the exam was postponed three times, with one cancellation occurring just 12 hours before the scheduled start. When it was finally conducted, the exam was held in two shifts, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among students due to variations in question paper difficulty. The subsequent normalization process used to calculate percentiles was heavily criticized, culminating in the Supreme Court case that directed NBEMS to revert to a single-shift format. The current postponement is a direct result of this court order, but students argue that NBEMSās failure to prepare adequately has exacerbated the situation.
āWe strongly oppose the postponement of the NEET PG 2025 Exam and demand an immediate announcement of the new exam date,ā said VP Sanu, President, and Mayukh Biswas, General Secretary, in a joint statement issued on behalf of the SFI.
They emphasized that the delay has disrupted months of preparation for candidates, many of whom have invested significant time, effort, and financial resources. The SFI also highlighted the financial burden on students, noting that NBEMS collected nearly 60 crore rupees in examination fees from over 2 lakh candidates. Despite this substantial revenue, the organization has failed to increase the number of test centers across the country, forcing many students to travel long distances to appear for the exam.
The SFIās demands extend beyond an immediate announcement of the new exam date. The organization has called for a significant expansion of test centers to ensure that students can take the exam in their preferred locations, reducing the logistical and financial strain of last-minute travel arrangements.

NEET PG exam centre 2025 were allotted with NEET PG 2025 admit card on July 31, 2025. Candidates must note the admit card has to be downloaded from the official website with login details.
NEET PG 2026 exam is expected to be held in August 2026. Candidates have to apply online to submit application form for NEET PG exam. Registration is mandatory to submit application for NEET PG. NBE will release dates and other crucial details such as application process, elligibility criteria, exam pattern etc along with the official brochure. The exam will be held in computer-based mode.
Additionally, the SFI has demanded compensation for students affected by NBEMSās repeated failures, arguing that the organizationās incompetence has caused undue stress and disruption. The involvement of private contractors, such as TCS, in managing exam centers has also raised concerns about transparency and fairness. The SFI insists that private entities should be excluded from the examination process to restore trust and ensure the integrity of this critical national exam.
The postponement has reignited memories of last yearās controversies surrounding both NEET UG and NEET PG exams, which eroded public confidence in NBEMSās ability to conduct high-stakes examinations. Students fear that the shift to a single-slot exam, while addressing previous concerns about fairness, may lead to changes in their allotted test cities, further complicating travel plans and adding to their expenses. The lack of sufficient test centers, coupled with excessive centralization and reliance on private service providers, has been cited as evidence of poor planning by NBEMS.
The SFIās statement underscores the broader implications of NBEMSās mismanagement, which has not only affected students but also shaken the confidence of parents, educators, and other stakeholders in the medical education system. With the Supreme Courtās directive placing additional pressure on NBEMS to deliver a fair and efficient examination process, students and advocacy groups like the SFI are urging the organization to act swiftly to address their concerns.
As aspirants await clarity on the new exam date, the SFI has vowed to continue its advocacy for a transparent and student-centric examination process. āThe repeated mismanagement of these exams must stop. The interests of students must be prioritized,ā the statement concluded, calling for immediate reforms to restore faith in the system and ensure that future examinations are conducted smoothly and equitably.
