CUET UG 2025 registrations have begun online, with candidates applying for one of India’s largest national-level UG entrance exams. However, a recent poll by Shiksha reveals that selecting the right CUET UG subject combination remains the most confusing aspect of the process. Candidates must choose their CUET UG 2025 subjects based on their preferred university and course. This year, CUET UG 2025 will be accepted by 287 universities, many of which have started releasing their UG course criteria.

The UGC has introduced significant changes, including the removal of six CUET domain subjects, 20 languages, and a reduction in subject choices. As a result, many candidates are unsure about selecting subjects and completing the application process.

Shiksha Poll: Which Part of CUET UG 2025 Is Confusing?

As per the Shiksha poll, the findings are:

  • 63% of students reported confusion regarding CUET 2025 subject combinations.
  • 27% found the exam pattern and syllabus challenging to understand.
  • 6% struggled with registration and document upload.
  • Only 4% of respondents stated that they understood the process well.

Why Are CUET UG Subject Combinations Confusing?

The CUET UG exam allows students to choose subjects based on their desired course and university requirements. However, the lack of uniformity in subject selection criteria across different institutions often leads to uncertainty. Many students are unsure about which subjects to pick to maximise their chances of admission.

Candidates are advised to check the following criteria while selecting the CUET UG subjects 2025:

  • Candidates must shortlist the list of desired universities and review the eligibility of the courses offered by the university.
  • Applicants must select a minimum of four CUET subjects to maximise admission chances.
  • CUET UG general aptitude test is an optional subject. This test can be skipped if the course criteria do not mention.
  • In case of any doubt, consult your teacher or mentors for selecting right subjects.

How to Overcome Other CUET UG Challenges?

  • CUET Exam Pattern & Syllabus: CUET UG 2025 exam will be conducted for a duration of 60 minutes for each subject. Each subject will consist of 50 questions in which there are no optional qustions. Candidates must check the CUET UG syllabus for the subjects they have opted for. CUET syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum. For preparation, align the preparation with the prescribed syllabus of CUET.
  • CUET UG 2025 Registration & Document Upload: Candidates can apply for CUET UG 2025 online till March 22, 2025. Candidates must upload the required documents in prescribed format, size and file name and save the uploaded file.

UGC has announced the deletion of 26 subjects from CUET UG 2025 onwards. CUET UG 20 foreign languages and six domain subjects have been removed. Check the list below to know the name of the subjects:

NTA prescribes the CUET UG marking scheme. Check below to know the CUET UG marking scheme 2026:

  • Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Five marks (+5)
  • Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1).
  • Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).
  • If more than one option is found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
  • If all options are found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
  • If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5) marks.
