IBPS PO selection process

IBPS PO selection process comprises three stages, preliminary exam, mains exam and interview. Any eligible candidate who aspires to join any of the participating organisations as Probationary Officer/Management Trainee are required to register for the Common Recruitment Process.

  • The online examination is conducted in two tiers, preliminary and mains exam.
  • Candidates who will qualify the preliminary exam will be shortlisted for the mains exam.
  • Candidates shortlisted in the mains exam will be subsequently called for the common interview.
  • Provisional allotment is done based on mains exam and interview.
  • The marks of the preliminary exam are not taken into consideration.

IBPS PO 2020 Selection Process

Each stage of IBPS PO selection process is explained below:

IBPS PO Selection Process: Preliminary Exam

This is the first stage of IBPS PO selection process. All the registered candidates are required to appear in the preliminary exam. IBPS PO is scheduled to be conducted on October 3, 4 and 10. According to IBPS PO exam pattern, the preliminary exam comprises three sections, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes (20 minutes for each section). The total questions in the test will be 100. All questions will be objective type. The test carries 100 marks.

Candidates are required to secure the sectional and overall cutoff marks to be selected for the mains exam.

IBPS PO Selection Process: Mains Exam

This stage is conducted for the shortlisted candidates of the prelims exam. The mains exam comprises both objective and descriptive test. The objective section comprises questions from English Language, Data Interpretation and Analysis, Reasoning and Computer Aptitude and General Awareness. The Descriptive section carries a question on English (Essay and Letter Writing). The total marks of the test are 225. The duration of the test is 3 hours 30 minutes.

IBPS PO Selection Process: Interview

Candidates who have been shortlisted in the online mains exam will be subsequently called for the interview. This stage is conducted by the Participating Organisations and coordinated by the nodal bank in each state /UT with the help of IBPS. The total marks allotted for the interview are 100. The minimum qualifying marks in the interview will not be less than 40% and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD.

The following documents in original and self-attested photocopies are required to be carried during the interview.

Printout of IBPS PO application form

Proof of Date of Birth

Photo Identify Proof

Marksheets or certificates for Graduation or equivalent qualification

Caste Certificate (if any)

Income and Asset Certificate (For EWS candidates)

Disability certificate (if any)

A copy of the service or discharge book alongwith pension payment order and documentary proof of rank last (For Ex-Servicemen)

No Objection Certificate (In case of working candidates)

Experience certificates (if any)

Final Selection

  • The final selection of candidates is done based on mains exam and interview.
  • The weightage given to the mains exam and interview will be in the ratio 80:20 respectively.

IBPS PO Selection Process: Provisional Allotment

On completion of the interview process, depending on the number of vacancies to be filled in the current year, candidates will be allotted to one of the participating organisation based on merit-cum-preference.

Vacancies given in the advertisement are indicative. The provisional allotment is done based on the final vacancies. In the case of two or more candidates having the same score, merit is decided as per the date of birth. They also subject the provisional allotment is also to the candidates fulfilling the criteria of participating organisation and identity verification.

Issuance of letter of appointment including the formalities for verification, joining, etc. is done by the participating organisations.
