It is a highly reputed job along with an attractive salary and numerous allowances and perks. The appointed candidates for IBPS PO post will be placed in the position of Junior Management Grade Scale 1 or JMGS-I. The JMGS 1 is generally referred to the Officers who have entered the Officer Cadre after promotion from the Clerical cadre. The basic IBPS PO salary is INR 48,480. The Indian Bank's Association and the Bank Employees Union signed the agreement on April 12, 2024. Both parties agreed to an increase of 17 per cent in the Basic Salary of the bank employees. The 12th Bipartite Agreement covers the employees of 12 Public Sector Banks, 10 Private Sector Banks and 3 Foreign Banks. The Bipartite Agreement also offered four stagnant increments instead of one to the senior bank employee.
The new salary structure will also offer the following allowances:

Posting Allowance will depend on the altitude of posting. Postings to places at an altitude above 1,000 metres but less than 1,500 metres, between 1,500 and 3,000 metres, and above 3,000 metres entail different rates of allowances – the higher the location, the bigger the allowance. Therefore, the salary is governed by the Bipartite Agreement between the Indian Banks' Association and the Bank Employees' Unions. It will be increased as per the yearly increment provided under the aforesaid agreement and is one of the most important components, apart from job security, which motivates candidates to apply for the IBPS PO exam.

The IBPS PO exam is conducted every year by the IBPS to select the eligible candidates for the post of Probationary Officers in various public sector banks in India. IBPS mentions IBPS PO reserve list to the extent of approximately 10 per cent of the vacancies under each category subject to the availability of candidates. This does not guarantee provisional allotment/recruitment by the participating banks. In the event of participating banks providing further vacancies, provisional allotment may be carried out three to four times for the candidates in the reserve list, based on the vacancies provided by some or any of the participating banks. However, if no vacancy is furnished by the participating banks owing to exigencies or otherwise during the validity period, the candidates under the reserve list will not be considered for provisional allotment.
