What is UGC NET?

UGC NET stands for University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test conducted to determine the eligibility to become an Assistant Professor or get JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) to pursue PhD in an Indian University. It is conducted twice a year as the June cycle and December cycle. The candidates preparing for the UGC NET must be prepared for the high competition as every year around 6 to 8 lakh candidates appear for the exam and only the top six percent are declared qualified for the exam.

Q:   What is the criteria for becoming a government lecturer after cracking net exam?
A:
Eligibility to be a Lecturer: 1. Educational Qualification To be eligible to be a lecturer one should hold at least a Master Degree in any of the relevant subject with at least 55% marks in it. Higher qualifications are always preferred. Step 1.Interested candidate has to appear in UGC-NET exam which is held twice a year and pass it.This is the only hurdle to be cleared to be eligible to get a job as a lecturer In a college. Step 2.After clearing UGC-NET exam one is eligible for applying as a lecturer in any college affiliated with any of the university recognised by UGC in India. Clearing of UGC-NET does not gives guarantee of any job it is just a condition to be cleared. One has to individually apply against the post advertised by various colleges from time to time in the mass media.College authorities can appoint a lecture by their own means. They may take a written test followed by an interview to select the deserving candidate or a walk in interview may be the criterion for the selection.
Q:   If I have taken UGC NET 2025 Paper 1, will I be qualified?
A:

No. Candidates are required to appear in both UGC NET Paper 1 and Paper 2 to qualify for the exam. Candidates need to pass both exams separately to be considered for the position. Qualifying marks category-wise are mentioned below:

For General or Unreserved category: 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together

For PWD/SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy layer and Transgenders: 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together

The NTA released the UGC NETadmit card 2025 for the December session exam. It was released on the official portal at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The admit card is a mandatory document thata needs to be carried at the examination centre by the candidate.

The UGC NET December session exam was over on January 7. As per the students' feedback UGC NET January 2 Paper 1 was Moderate some felt that Assertion & Reasoning part was a bit difficult. Paper 1 was lengthy.
