Know UPTET Exam pattern and syllabus
Let us discuss a few important facts related to UPTET exam pattern:
- There are two levels in UPTET exam, and both are conducted in offline mode (OMR based), Level-I is for Primary Teachers (Class I-V) and Level-II is for upper primary teachers (Class VI-VIII)
- Total duration of each test is 2.5 hours (150 minutes), candidates need to attempt 150 questions in each paper
- UPTET syllabus includes various topics such as Child Development and Pedagogy, Language section, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Science and Social Studies. Read UPTET syllabus.
- Questions papers are bilingual, English and Hindi
Prepare a Study Plan
There are several sections in UPTET syllabus, candidates need to give equal attention to each and every section. Don’t ignore any section as all sections are equally important.
Child Development and Pedagogy - This section is new to most of the candidates. Choose the right book for this section and develop basic concept. The questions asked in exam from this section are not very difficult, you should have the good fundamental knowledge to attempt the questions. Emphasize on topics like National Curriculum Framework 2005 and Teaching-Learning Process, understanding diverse learners (backward/mentally-retarded/specially-abled), concept of learning, various teaching activities etc.
Language I & II – Language sections are relatively easy sections. Examiners will assess your basic language skills in these sections. You need to learn grammar, vocabulary and comprehension to score well. Follow UPTET previous year's question paper to have an overall idea about language sections.
Mathematics/ Science/ Social science – Many candidates find these topics relatively difficult. If you are weak in this section, you must invest more time here. Questions are based on basic concepts, try to learn important formulas and theories to excel in this section.
Environmental Studies – Read a textbook that has covered the entire syllabus. Emphasize on topics like Renewable Sources of Energy, Conservation of Species, and Significance of Environment Studies, House Building, Festivals, Consumer Protection etc.
Make Notes
Making notes on the subjects will help you remembering key topics. Such subject wise quick notes or one-liners or tables or flowchart will also help to clear concept and understanding. These notes are helpful in solving MCQs and also they will be very helpful during the time of revision. Candidates can save precious time before the exam in this way. Note down the those points which you feel are potentially important for the papers.
Choose the Right Books or Study Material
Selecting the right book for each subject is very crucial for success in UPTET exam. Before buying any book, check online reviews by the UPTET qualified candidates or other TET qualified candidates. Try to finish one book for each subject first, then gradually opt for other reference books. Apart from good books, read online study notes. Also, YouTube videos are good source of information.
Practice Objective Questions (MCQs)
Start practicing previous years’ papers, it will make you aware of the pattern of questions being asked in the exam. Solve these papers within the stipulated time, try to answer as many questions as you can with accuracy. Go for online mock tests for UPTET after you complete previous years’ papers. Candidates can also try to attempt CTET questions papers, which are similar to UPTET.
