LPU offers PhD for a minimum duration of three years at the doctoral level. The university offers full-time PhD in 42 specialisations. The university conducts a National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST) for its PhD aspirants. Interested candidates meeting the below eligibility can apply for the LPU PhD programme:
- Candidates who have completed a master's degree (two-year/ four semester's degree after a three-year bachelor's degree) or equivalent with an aggregate ranging between 55% and 65% or equivalent grades can apply for PhD programme.
- Aspirants who have passed a one-year/ two-semester master's degree programme with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grades prescribed by UGC after a four-year/eight-semester bachelor's degree can also apply.

LPU does not offer direct admission. However, admission to few courses is merit-based. Aspirants scoring a 65% aggregate have a good chance of getting admission in LPU. Candidates seeking admission must visit the official website of the university to apply online. LPU offers above 300 degree and Diploma courses at the UG, PG and PhD levels. It also offers distance learning courses through LPU Distance Education (LPUDE). LPU admission process includes application, selection rounds and result declaration. LPUNEST is the official entrance and scholarship exam. Lovely Professional University accepts other national-level entrance exams such as JEE Main Part 2, NATA, CAT, MAT and XAT for admission to UG and PG programs.
LPU NEST application form fee for a soft copy of the LPU NEST 2026 Kit is INR 1000 for boys and girls. The printed copy of the LPU NEST Kit is available for INR 1500 for boys and girls. The admission cycle begins for PhD admission between October and November. Below are the steps to get admission to PhD course:
Step 1: LPU PhD Application Process 2026
LPU PhD admission to all the above-mentioned specialisations is done through an online mode. Candidates, fulfilling the eligibility criteria, need to apply online through the admission portal of the university. The exam fee for LPUNEST (soft copy of LPUNEST KIT) is INR 1,000 for males and INR 500 for females. The printed LPUNEST Kit is INR 1,500 for boys and INR 1,000 for girls. Step 1.1: Visit the official website of LPU, https://www.lpu.in/, and click on the ' Apply Now' tab at the top of the web page.
Step 1.2: Register on the official admission portal of LPU i.e. LPUADMIT (admission.lpu.in) with basic details such as name, email-id, mobile no., state, gender and password). The email id used during registration will act as the username for the portal and the password needs to be set by the candidate while registering. Candidates can continue to apply for LPUNEST (for scholarship purposes).
Step 1.3: Upload the requisite documents.

This step is applicable only to the aspirants appearing for the LPU NEST PhD. In LPUNEST slot booking, aspirants need to select an exam date and a shift for appearing in the exam. There are two ways to book the slot that are slot booking by the candidate and slot booking by the authorities of Lovely Professional University.
Step 3: Selection
LPU shortlists candidates for PhD programme based on LPUNEST PhD score. The university will also consider the academic performance of the candidates for final selection. Below is the weightage of the selection parameter for PhD:
