Q:   What is the structure of CAT question paper?
    A:

Till 2014, there were only two sections in CAT. Quantitative Aptitude was clubbed with Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning was clubbed with Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. In 2015, the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning were clubbed together and Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension made two individual sections. Since 2015, the sectional segregation has remained the same but the number of questions have come down from 100 to 66. The exam duration has also been reduced. Until 2019, the CAT exam was of 180 minutes and the total number of questions were 100. However, in 2020, the question paper structure was revised due to COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the total number of questions came down to 76. In 2021 and 2022, the number of questions were further lowered to 66. For the last two years, CAT is conducted for 2 hours, and the number of questions is 66. In CAT 2024 however, the number of questions were increased to 68.

If you want, then you can join, but you have to score well on the GATE entrance.
Placements: Placement percentage here is very good, it is around 90%, and the average placement for the 2025 placement session is around 15.76 LPA or maybe higher. Since results are not made available to us yet, the highest offer is around 55 lakh+, according to some fourth-year students. The number of companies visiting us is many. They include tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Sony, Samsung, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, AMD, Yahoo and highlighting companies are Ceat, Volvo, Volkswagen, LT, Bosch, McAfee, and the list goes on and on and on.
Infrastructure: Hostels are decent, I think. In the first year, there are 3 people in a single room, while the room can hold three people, the cupboards provided are for only two people. Wi-Fi all over the campus with cctv security. Labs are good. The library is good, it has all types of books. Classrooms are spacious and digitally updated. There are many grounds for different sports. There is also a swimming pool.
Faculty: Faculty members are good. They are highly educated and experienced. All courses are two or three credits. Exams are getting very strict. Marking is average. The paper is too tough. Lab exams are good. If someone cheats in the exam, the faculty will give an F in the exam. Some questions are in the exam outside the syllabus. It's like a GATE entrance exam.

The club culture of this college is also a thing that I like.
Placements: I got placed in a reputed company through my college placement. The support and guidance throughout the month were excellent. They always show us the path to start our career, and they have collaborated with many good companies. The placement provides quality opportunities for students by offering interviews in reputed companies. I got placed in Zeitgeist company as an HR executive, which is a well-reputed company. Overall, the placement experience was good.
Infrastructure: The overall experience is good. I came to know more about technology. I mixed with fantastic students, and the clubbing culture, especially the competition to join tech clubs, is very high, which shows the standard of these tech clubs. The facilities in the college classrooms are of a very high standard. Sports are widely practiced here, with some international-level badminton courts too.
Faculty: In each department, they have a minimum of 12 to 15 staff members, and they have a great relationship with students. My favorite faculty is in the Bachelor of Commerce because they have very cool staff. I like all the faculty members. Each semester, we have four exams: two CIA tests, one Model test, and the final semester exam. If we study, the exams are easy, and almost all students pass.

    My review of this college.
Placements: NIT Trichy offers one of the best placements. Placements are 100% guaranteed. Job opportunities are also good. Around 2,000 people get admission every year, and obviously, according to 100% placements, 2,000 people get selected in top companies, except for our marks and all that system. It is good for placements. Few companies like ISRO, BEL ITI, Halosoft, Jasmine, Microsoft, Nvidia, Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw and Co., Cisco Systems, etc., visit the college for campus placements. In my branch, the highest package is 20 LPA. The average package is around 6 LPA. This is the main shortcoming of this institute.
Infrastructure: The hostel and mess facilities are top-class. There are both North Indian and South Indian messes. The Kerala mess is the best of all. There are about 15 men's hostels and 4 women's hostels on the campus. Single-seater and two-seater rooms are available for students as per availability. There is a sports complex inside the hostel.
Faculty: We have got one of the best faculty members with a lot of experience and excellent teaching skills. Every department has its own HOD which always strive for the sustainable development of the institution. I would suggest students make their own efforts and let the faculty members just guide them. The is a common thing in every college in our country. We only have exams in the first year, and they are not too frequent. We have 2 cycle tests and one final exam each semester, which is not too much pressure in the second year, and we didn't have any exams, but constant project reviews at regular intervals. It is well-planned, and the exam structure has been planned by taking the all-around growth of students. It is one of the prestigious institutions in India and an institution of national importance. The course curriculum is in line with students' development.

Education is good. Professors are highly qualified.
Placements: Last semester, students were eligible for college placements at different companies, but it was up to the individual's ability to secure jobs in the best companies. The highest package for a B.Tech in Computer Engineering was between 34 LPA and 12 LPA. Almost all students were placed in this college, but in recent years, the placement ratio was low due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Infrastructure: Generally, the rooms were 25 x 25 feet, with 3-sharing for first-year students. After the first year, students could move to another hostel with 2 or 3-sharing, depending on room size. There were 22 boys' hostels and 6 girls' hostels. The hostel facilities included a wardrobe, one bed per resident, 2 fans, and 2 tube lights per room. Washing machines, restrooms per floor, and drinking water facilities were also available. The meal quality in the first-year mess was not very good, but it improved in the second year. The registration process for the hostel was done on the college MS portal. (For more information, one could visit their website.)
Faculty: The student-to-faculty ratio was low, and faculty members were well-educated. All professors had qualified for all government qualification exams. The time duration of the exam was 3 hours per subject.
Other: I chose this course because I was interested in computer language during school, which led me to choose this course.

Good to learn more and create opportunities.
Placements: A greater number of students are now placed in our course. The highest, the lowest, and the average packages offered in my course are 1300000, 100000, and 600000. The top companies for our course are Amazon, Flipkart, Tata, Apple, Google, and Microsoft. Thirty percent of students got internships in my course from Amazon.
Infrastructure: There are good laboratories, classroom facilities in our college, and a library is also available where most of the books are available. The food quality in our college hostel is good and provides good facilities for sports and games. The food served was of good quality both in the hostel and in the canteen of college premises.
Faculty: The curriculum of this course is very good, which is used to improve the skills of students. They are friendly to the students and clarify the doubts of students in their course and other plans for the future like placements and jobs. The teachers are well qualified and very helpful to achieve the required academic knowledge and scores.

Good college, good location, good IIT.
Placements: The placements are good every year. But this year it was somewhat close to disaster. Most of the companies came, and the intake is less this year. The highest package offered is by Qualcomm, 2,500,000/annum. Internship opportunities are great. I haven't applied for any internship because the college itself has better technology labs, and M.Tech students can use them with the permission of the guide, and a PhD student should accompany you.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are good, like every other college. Cleanliness is a factor that the hostels possess. Sports and extracurricular activities are good in college. But unlike many IITs, they won't offer coaches to the respective college teams. There is Wi-Fi all over the campus with CCTV security. Classrooms are spacious and digitally updated. The library is good, and all types of books are available.
Faculty: The course was amazing. There are good and bad faculty members. The best in the electrical department was Dr Saravano Ilango Ganesan, who is really knowledgeable and is a great helping hand. Term exams were easy. An average person can easily pass it. There are two semesters in a year, and each semester has two sessionals which are conducted by the college.

NIT Trichy stands above many newly formed IITs. All the newly established IITs are still growing & also need improvement to stand at par with an NIT established in 1964. IITs such as IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are still leading the race, and the gap between these IITs and NIT Trichy is huge.
