It is a good college in terms of ROI. Placements are not up to the mark.
Placements: Placements in the college are average for the food technology department as most of the students get placed in non-core companies. The salary package offered ranges from 3.25-6.25 LPA. Good placement opportunities are available for the chemical engineering students with salary packages as high as 9-10 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is quite old. However, labs are available with appropriate machinery. The college has various clubs as well. Hostels are available on the basis of waiting lists and are not immediately available to all. The quality of the food served in hostels and students centre available here are good.
Faculty: Most of the teachers in the college are quite helpful, well qualified and knowledgeable. However, a few others are not that helpful at times. The quality of teaching is mostly up to the mark. Adequate industry exposure is provided during training. The course curriculum is sometimes quite rigorous.
Other: The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

Students well settled, according to government institute structure is well established.
Placements: Coming to the placements, my batch was of 26 students, out of which 90% of the students were eligible for siting for the companies that turned up, out of which 50% got placed I, e around 12-14 but many deserving students were not able to get placed, so they opted for further higher stuides like MBA from top b schools, which provided them good opportunity to excel in their career as food technology student gets preference in IIM A and IIM L in doing agribusiness management course, which is an edge over other students.
Infrastructure: Our department is well structured, the department is equipped with all the necessary labs such as food technology lab, inorganic lab, petrochemical lab, mass transfer, heat transfer lab. These all labs are well-equipped with all the required insrtument to perform the task and get to the conceret result. Coming to the class room they well-equipped having projectors and digital blackboard with all the basic amenities available for the students which makes them comfortable and feel at home to study and excel.
Faculty: The faculty is well qualified and have great knowledge and have good industrial exposure as well, we were thought by the faculty who have done Ph.D. in their core field I. e food technology from foreign as well as domestic top universities. The teaching quality is up to the mark and they help us in getting the deep knowledge about the subject and sometime practical exposure too.

Review of the chemical engineering department (Dr SSB UICET, PU).
Placements: The placement is fairly good for chemical engineering in our department with major companies like Reliance, UOP Honeywell, ZS, Exon Mobil, Aakash and much more. But I can't say the same about food Technology although few companies come for placement like ITC, Nestle, ZS and several others. The food Technology course has the preference in admission to IIM Ahmedabad and IIM L, and therefore most of the students go for CAT rather than placement.
Infrastructure: The Panjab University is equipped with Wi-Fi, and our chemical engineering department is in from doing famous AC Joshi, so we have good facilities available. As for buildings and classroom, our department building was the first building made at Panjab University, so it is relatively old but still elegant. We also have world-class research facilities available in our department.
Faculty: Some faculty is very good but a few are not. We have some of the best chemical engineering and food technology professors in India. Industry exposure is still not as much as required but it is still more than provided by any local private colleges.

Review for food technology of Panjab University.
Placements: The placement was good till 2015, now the situation is unclear, we are hoping for the best. The placement of the chemical engineering is great, and the food engineering placements also depends on the number of consultancy jobs available. The average package in 2015 was around 5 LPA, and in 2016 it was around 2.2 LPA. Till now the placement scenario is not very clear.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is average. Most of labs are well equipped. Practicals are performed thoroughly, and faculty members are experienced in their field. If pilot plant of the department is rehabilitated, then that would be a great boost to the infrastructure. The classrooms are equipped with projectors, which work for most of the cases. There are 9 lecture halls in the department.
Faculty: The course curriculum is very thorough and nicely designed, according to my knowledge. If a person studies regularly then he can have good technical knowledge about his stream. Most of the senior teachers are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful, and it is nice to be in their class.

The engineering courses offered by the Panjab University.
Placements: The placements for the food technology have declined over the past 3 years at Panjab University. Otherwise, if we consider our strong alumni base, the current scenario can surely be improved. The average package for the undergraduates is 4-4.5 lakhs per annum and can go up to 7 lakhs per annum (offered by consultancy firms).
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is average, especially the laboratories. Otherwise, the university, central library, AC stands a class apart. Though, the sports complex, gymnasium hall, hostels and lecture halls are fairly good, keeping in mind the fee structure is affordable. The fee structure for BE food technology and BE chemical is 16k per year. The hostel or accommodation charges are also pocket friendly.
Faculty: The senior faculty members are very competent and proficient without any doubt. The professors are quite accessible. But, there’s a shortage of faculty members. And the senior professors have jammed up the schedule, because of that students have to suffer at the hands of the guest faculty. This is the case for some specific subjects.

So much to learn academically and personally.
Placements: The placements of our senior batch were much better than our batch. With every passing year, our department has seen a decline in campus recruitment. Highest salary offered has been 5.5 lac till now. Nestle has been a consistent recruiter but this year even Nestle was not contacted for placements. ITC and Tirupati Medicare also recruit from our department. Usually, students are appointed as graduate trainees.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is satisfactory. All the departments and all hostels are well equipped with wifi. Classrooms and labs are like in a typical government institution. Medical facilities are pretty good. Food available in the canteen is fine, no complaints in regard to food. Hostel rooms are also adjustable.
Faculty: Experience with the faculty has been ok- not too good. Some are very helpful while some don't even bother about you and your career. Some are arrogant while some are quite humble. Both kinds of faculty have been helpful in my overall development. I take both kinds in a positive sense. The course curriculum is quite useful for further studies and for the job.

Other: It is one of the best colleges for the chemical engineering stream and is situated in the so-called best university of the country, Panjab university.
However, this college is pathetic with no infrastructure and pathetic teachers who are good for nothing. The students succeed on their own with zero placement support and no extracurricular activities are organised here.
The total fee charged is 60k for 4 years and the attitude here is very laid back, just like any other government college.

Other: I study in food technology and have mixed reviews for this college. Teachers are good but not great. The classes are quite interactive in nature. Though students are not provided with any handouts but most teachers share their presentations with them.
Even though the campus facilities & exposure which it provides is good, yet the placements are only average. Average package offered for my batch was 3-3.5 LPA. Besides this, the infrastructure is decent enough and labs are well equipped.

Yes, you can get admission in UIET in food technology with this rank but may not be in the first counselling but in the next counselling, so definitely apply for it.

No biology in 12th is not compulsory but yes, if you have , it will prove to be really helpful throughout the course as maximum core subjects in food technology include biology.
