IIT Delhi or IITD offers an MS (by Research) programme for a three-year duration. It is intended as an alternative to MTech programme, designed for students with a research and development (R&D) bent of mind. In addition to this, the deemed University also offers a PhD programmes across all its departments. Candidates, fulfilling the eligibility criteria, can apply to any of the two programmes in online mode through the official website of IIT Delhi. The IITD application process for MS (by Research) and PhD admission 2021 is shown below:

IIT Delhi Admission 2021: MS (by Research), PhD

IITD MS (by Research) admission 2021 is based on a valid GATE score obtained by eligible candidates. However, BTech/ BE/ Integrated MSc graduates from CFTIs and MA/ MSc graduates from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 or above are eligible for direct admissions (Requirement of GATE score is waived for admission).

Eligibility Criteria: BE/ BTech/ MSc or equivalent degree from a recognised institution with a minimum of 60% aggregate or 6.00 CGPA out of 10 along with a minimum work experience as per the details mentioned below:

IIT Delhi PhD applications are invited twice a year in March and October and subsequently, the admissions are carried out in May and December. The minimum duration for MTech candidates pursuing PhD programme is two years, whereas for BTech candidates it is three years. Also, all the candidates are allowed a maximum of seven years for the submission of their thesis. Candidates willing to seek admission to IIT Delhi PhD programme need to fulfill below-mentioned eligibility criteria as per the previous qualifying degree/ exam:

PhD programme is also offered in part-time and sponsored full-time modes. Candidates willing to seek admission in any of these two modes need to appear for a written test, followed by a PI round, both conducted by the institute. Eligibility details are enlisted below:

In addition to the above-mentioned research programmes, IIT Delhi and the University of Queensland (UQ) have launched a Joint PhD programme under which students from India, Australia and elsewhere are admitted. IITD/ QU faculty jointly formulate projects and students spend three years at the parent institution and at least one year at the partner. Students, who successfully complete all the requirements of the programme, are awarded a joint degree by both institutions.

Also, IIT Delhi and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan have initiated an Industry-funded Joint Doctoral Degree Programme (JDP). Students are admitted at both institutions, at the time of joining or after they join the regular PhD programme. Once all the course requirements are fulfilled, the students are awarded a JDP degree from both institutions. Admission to both Joint PhD and JDP is based on the performance of the candidates in a written test and an interview round, both conducted by the parent institution.

IIT Delhi Application Process 2021

For seeking admission to the courses offered at IIT Delhi, as a first step, candidates are required to visit the official website of respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill the application form in online mode. Further, candidates are also required to fill the IIT Delhi application form 2021 and pay an application fee of Rs 200 (Rs 50 for SC/ ST/ PwD) candidates). The steps to fill IIT Delhi application form 2021 are given below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of IIT Delhi (www.iitd.ac.in). On its homepage, click on ‘Admissions’. From the drop-down menu that appears, further, click on ‘Announcements’.

Step 2: The admission brochure, admission pamphlet and prospectus can be downloaded from this page. Click on ‘Apply Now’ button to proceed further.

Step 3: The registration page opens up. Click on ‘New User Register Here’. Fill the registration form with all the details, including name, email ID, contact number, course preference, etc. Also, create an alpha-numeric password for future logins.

Step 4: Further, fill in the remaining application form by addressing other details, including guardian info, address of communication, qualifications, etc.

Step 5: Upload all the required documents in PDF format. Also, upload a passport-size photograph and signature and JPG/ JPEG format.

Step 6: Conclude the application process by paying an application fee using a debit card/ credit card/ net banking.

Candidates need to submit scanned copies of below-mentioned documents while filling IIT Delhi application form in online mode:

  • No objection certificate (only in case of part-time applicants)
  • Sponsorship certificate/ Relieving letter (in case of full-time sponsored/ full-time working candidates)
  • Medical certificate (in case of full-time candidates)

IIT Delhi Scholarships 2021

IIT Delhi offers several scholarships both at the UG and PG level which are based on the financial situation of the students or their academic performances. A programme-wise split of IITD scholarships are mentioned in the table below:
