Symbiosis SET 2026 Exam WAT Preparation Tips
As mentioned, WAT topics can be abstract or very specific, such as current affairs. To prepare for WAT round at SIU colleges for BBA admissions, students can follow WAT preparation tips below:
- A reading habit is important for a good WAT performance. Students should stay updated with the current affairs, trends and recent happenings around the world. Reading well written content will help candidates improve their vocabulary, comprehension skills, grammar and writing styles. Students can read newspapers such as The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Economic Times, etc., to be updated with current trends. Students can also read editorials and opinion pieces.
Some topics can be abstract or philosophical in nature. Reading such essays, thought leadership pieces and reflective articles will help candidates prepare well for WAT round. - Improving vocabulary is important. Students should try learning at least 5 to 10 new words and not just their meanings. They should also learn their synonyms, antonyms, usages, etc. Students should focus on their sentence structures and grammar. They can revisit the grammar rules, as a clear and grammatically correct writing leaves a stronger impact.
- After gaining knowledge, students should practice writing. Students should make a habit of writing essays within 30 minutes of time with a proper structure and flow of content. The essay should have an introduction, body and a conclusion showing writer’s thoughts.
- Divide time available for WAT round into parts. Students can spend first 2 to 3 minutes brainstorming topic. Students can jot down the ideas and make an outline of the essay. The next 15 mins can be spent on writing the essay with a proper structure and a proper flow of content. They should spend the last few minutes on proofreading the essay and making sure there are no factual or grammatical errors, unclear sentences, etc. A quick scan can save marks. So, time management is important for WAT round of Symbiosis BBA.
- Candidates should understand that WAT is not only for writing essays. This selection round also judges candidates on their critical and analytical thinking abilities. Candidates should be able to analyse both sides of issues, even if they strongly back one of them. This is important as it shows balanced thinking. Using data and facts can always come in handy during this round.
So, by keeping clarity, flow and grammar intact, students can craft well written essays and manage time at the same time. WAT tests how well a candidate can articulate their thoughts in a clear, concise, and logical manner. Continuous practice, coupled with regular feedback, will ensure that they excel in the SET selection process.

IPMAT is usually considered a bit more difficult than SET, as IPMAT exam has advanced mathematics and is calculation intensive. The exam also have a sectional time limit. But, SET is easier in terms of difficulty, does not have negative marking or sectional timings.
