IIT Patna Admission Overview 2025
IIIT Patna admission 2025 is completely an online process. For admission to its flagship course, i.e., BTech, the institute accepts JEE Advanced scores followed by JoSAA Counselling. Students are also required to qualify JEE Main exam before appearing for JEE Advanced. In addition to its flagship course, IIT Patna offers BS, MSc, MTech and PhD courses to students at the UG, PG and doctoral levels. While admission to MTech and MSc is subject to GATE and IIT JAM, respectively, the admission process for BS is subject to a valid score in JEE Main, JEE Advanced, followed by JoSAA counselling.
1. Application:
BTech aspirants in IIT Patna must apply in JEE main and then appear in JEE advanced. Admissions in the MSc and MTech must be through IIT JAM and GATE respectively. The other classes are to check the specific entrance test information in the official site.
2. Entrance Exams:
JEE Main, then JEE Advanced, is needed to take admission in BTech and BS courses of IIT Patna. The candidates who take MSc should appear in the IIT JAM exam and those who take MTech should appear in the GATE exam. The entrance examinations vary depending on the course and thus, the candidates are asked to read the requirements.
3. Selection Rounds:
In IIT Patna, admission to BTech can be done on the basis of JEE advanced marks and rank by taking part in JoSAA counselling. The process of admission to MSc is dependent on IIT JAM scores, and CCMN counselling, and the process of admission to MTech is dependant on GATE scores through COAP. Other programmes may involve merit lists or institution specific rounds.
4. Counselling and Admission Confirmation:
Applicants of BTech are made to go through counselling in JoSAA, after which they receive a seat based on their rank and preference. MSc and MTech students go through CCMN and COAP counselling respectively in order to be given seat allocation. Finally, the successful candidates pay the fee of admission to get a seat at IIT Patna.

IIT Patna MTech is offered across more than ten specialisations. The PG-level course lasts for two years and has a total of four semesters. No, direct admission to the programmes offered at IIT Patna is not possible. For admission to the BTech programmes the aspirng candidates need to have JEE Main along with JEE Advance. For admission to the M.Tech programmes the aspirng candidates need to have GATE exam scores.
