A total of 330 companies visited the campus during IIT BHU placements 2026. In 2025, 398 companies visited.

For admission to BTech at IIT BHU, candidates must appear for the JEE Main and paticipate in the JoSAA counselling process. JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes, including IITs, JoSAA3 IIITs, and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). To apply at JoSAA, candidates must register and apply via the JoSAA official website. The counselling has an application fee, which must be paid while submitting the form. The candidates need to pay the seat acceptance fee as per the fee details given in the table below:

Candidates who have BE/BTech/MSc or equivalent with (a) CGPA 6.00 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks in aggregate for General/OBC (Non Creamy Layer)/EWS. Category with valid GATE score BTech from IITs with CGPA of 8.00 without GATE are also eligible for admission. AMIE / Grad. IETE are eligible for the M.Tech programme at IIT BHU.

The dates for JoSAA counselling 2026 choice filling will be announced once the result of JEE Main 2026 is declared. Candidates can fill choices only during the choice filling period. Also, candidates need to lock their choices before the last date.

IIT BHU admissions are done solely on the basis of entrance tests as prescribed by the state/national norms. Students must appear for the entrance tests like JEE Main or JEE advanced for Engineering admissions. IIT BHU offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral-level courses in the fields of Engineering & Technology, Science, Architecture, and Pharmacy. Candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria to be able to apply for the IIT Varanasi courses. IIT BHU eligibility varies from course to course. IIT BHU does provide combined programmes of BTech and M.Tech in many specialisation. The admission requirements to such integrated courses frequently have a minimum of 75% board examination marks (or equivalent) in Class 12 (or equivalent) besides other conditions.

The overall highest and average package recorded during IIT BHU placements 2026 was INR 167 LPA and INR 29 LPA. A total of 1,228 offers were made and 292 PPOs were made during the placement drive 2026.

As part of the admission procedure, the prospective candidates must also take a Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). However, BTech qualified in IITs with an overall CGPA of 8.00 or above in 10 point scale are exempted with regard to the GATE and are directly eligible to the process. It is also worth mentioning that the minimum eligibility requirements are as well mandatory to the candidates who would like to join IIT BHU MTech programme in 2025.

IIT Varanasi Cutoff 2024 was concluded for MSc admission. The Institute provides admission to MSc courses on the basis of performance in IIT JAM exam.
