NIT Nagaland History:
- Beginning within the mentorship of NIT Silchar for 2 years, NIT Nagaland is known to be among 10 newly approved NITs in the year 2009.
- For the first 2 years, NIT Nagaland operated from the campus of NIT Assam.
- The Institute began its academic year in 2010, with permanent land allocation by January 2012.
- Interestingly, NIT Nagaland conducted its first academic session within the walls of the permanent campus on September 20, 2012.

NIT Nagaland admission starts with the registration process for JEE Main January session. Admission to NIT Nagaland is subject to various national-level entrance exams such as JEE Main and GATE. The flagship programme of NIT Nagaland is BTech which is offered across six specialisations. Admission to BTech is based on JEE Main scores followed by JoSSA Counselling. For MTech and MSc, admission is subject to GATE and IIT JAM exams, respectively. MTech and MSc also have counsellig based admission. CCMT and CCMT are the counselling platform through which the qualified MSc and MTech are admitted.
To apply for the MSc at NIT Nagaland, candidates first must qualify for the eligibility criteria: B.Sc. (Hons. in Physics) with 60% aggregate for general and OBC candidates and 55% or 6.0 CGPA in 10 scale grading for SC and ST. Candidates qualifying the eligibility are now eligible to appear for the Institutional Entrance Examination conducted in the NIT Nagaland campus. The seats offered via the entrance exam are seats which are left after the CCMN counselling. Candidates can apply vis the CCMN cunselling by visiting the counsellin's official website.
Direct admission is not offered for MSc at NIT Nagaland. Admission to MSc is based on the JAM scores followed by CCMN counselling. The campus of NIT Nagaland offers various facilities and world-class infrastructure to its students. These include the following:
- Central Library: The Central Library of NIT Nagaland has a collection of over 9,500 books in streams such as Engineering, Basic Sciences, Management, Humanities, and others. The library also has more than 1,400+ e-books on Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Science along with non-book materials such as NPTEL videos, CDs/CD-ROMs, etc.
- Hostel: NIT Nagaland houses six. At present, there are four 64-seated boys’ hostels, one 56-seated girls’ hostel, and a 32-seated PG boys hostel on the NIT Nagaland campus. NIT Nagaland also provides good quality mess facilities (Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian) for all students and a few faculties and staff.
- Sports: The Institute is equipped with sports facilities and several indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games include Badminton, table tennis, Carrom, and Chess, and outdoor games include Cricket and Football. New football and cricket stadiums are under construction and expected to be ready soon.

NIT Nagaland is based in Dimapur, Nagaland. It has a sturdy infrastructure that provide access to a central library and clean classrooms and labs. The overall infrastructure is great. As per the IIIT Allahabad cutoff 2023, the Last Round closing rank for BTech ranged between 5924 and 9558, among which Information Technology was the most competitive specialisation. No, you can not get into NIT Nagaland's BTech programme without having appeared in JEE Mains. The main selection criteria of the course is scores obtained in the JEE Mains exam only, hence, admission without it is not possible. Participating in the JoSAA counselling is also necessary.
