B.Tech. in Biotechnology - Batch of 2023
4.2
I am satisfied with my college for getting good grades in my B.Tech with the help of my professors.
Placements: In my department [biotechnology], there are no core placements. My friends got jobs in IT along with SDE jobs being offered in our course. The highest package in our department is 10LPA and the lowest is 7LPA. 2-3% people got internships as well as jobs. I am only dissatisfied about my course as are is no core placements. Overall, the education is good. The professors’ behaviour is good and they are also very friendly.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure of the college is top notch with every aspect like Wi-Fi, labs, classroom, and library being available. The library was well maintained and in a perfect condition. Old hostels are not as good as I thought. The quality of food is average with the mess and canteen facilities being decent. Medical facilities are excellent. The management never lets you down with top class sports facilities provided. There are inter-NIT and intra-NIT tournaments held frequently.
Faculty: Teachers are highly professional with doctorate degrees, and are also highly skilled and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is amazing. The course curriculum is relevant. With the help of lab equipments and professors’ knowledge, the students are made industry ready. Semesters exams are too difficult, the paper is out of the box. The passing percentage in my class is 80%.
Other: I studied Biotechnology [2023 passed out from institute of technology, Calicut] in this college. Since childhood, I was curious about natural sciences. I eventually developed an interest in Biology. I got to know through my relatives about the course of Biotechnology combining two of my interests into one course. Jobs and placements offered by the various companies attracted me to join this college. In south, our college hosts top most fests like TATHVA, and RAGAM. These two fests are the biggest fests of south India. Almost every college’s students come to our college to participate in the fests. The campus surroundings are quite peaceful. Scholarships are decent. Extracurricular activities like MIME, DRAMA, SPOOF, STREETPLAY etc. are held.

Review of NIT Calicut - National Institute of Technology.
Placements: From the 4th semester, students become eligible for internships. Many companies related to various branches visit the college with their opportunities. About 100+ companies visit our college for placements. The highest placement package was 38 LPA, and the lowest was 7 LPA. 70% of students get placed according to the college record. Since I am in the first year, I am not sure.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facilities are provided by the college in the campus as well as in the hostels. Classrooms also have necessary equipment like projectors. Labs are also clean with all equipment present in them. Libraries are also available with stocked books and with a person who guides us about books. Mess and canteen food is not that much good but we can eat it.
Faculty: Teachers are very experienced as they claim to have more than 10 years of experience in the teaching field. All the staff members are well qualified and hold many achievements. Semester exams are conducted by the college since our college is autonomous. Exams are difficult, but the college provides us with a question bank which helps us in preparing for academic papers. All the questions in the paper come from the question bank provided by the college.
Other: I choose this course because I wanted to work in natural field which belongs to earth Science.

Good College if You are in Good Department.
Placements: 89% of placement was held for Bio-Tech department, and the average salary of INR 7 LPA. Other departments like CSE have 100% placement with a maximum salary of INR 69 LPA in the year 2021-2022. Salary orders will be like CSE>ECE>EEE>MECH and other departments have around same salary package.
Infrastructure: There is approximately 11 hostel which includes 3 ladies' hostel. Out of the 11 hostels, 3 hostels are for first-year students where only first-year students reside. Hostels are named after Alphabets like A, B etc. A and B hostels are for the first year and second and third-year students have Mega hostel which has good infrastructure than first years hostel.
Faculty: To be frank, faculty members are not that good. Even though they are highly educated their teaching skills are not that best. Semester exams are a little bit tough and we have to prepare ourselves for the exam. Industry exposure is good. Most faculty prefer relative grading over absolute grading.

Placements, infrastructure, and facilities are good, but there is an 80% attendance rule.
Placements: About 77% of students are placed. Only 9 students in biotechnology were registered, and 7 got placed. The average salary package is 6.5 LPA. Placements are good for CSE and ECE. For core branches and core companies, there are fewer placements. Any student can code and land a job in a product-based company on and off campus.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are decent and labs are good. The hostel has Wi-Fi, but it didn't work for most hostelers. Food is not good. There is a small health center outside the campus. You can go there and have a checkup.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified and knowledgeable, but the teaching is not that good. You can always ask them your doubts and subject-related queries. The curriculum is not that relevant. To be industry-ready, students have to take other courses as well. Semester exams are not hard if you have studied in class or at least started preparation one day before the exam.

I'm highly satisfied because of the great education and facilities and great placements provided.
Placements: In the last year (2020), about 647 students got placed from our college in around 151 companies. From biotechnology, out of 11 students who applied for placements, about 8 students got placed in companies. Some of the most famous companies which offer placements for biotechnology are Thermo Fisher Scientific, Novartis Healthcare Private Limited, etc.
Infrastructure: The campus has many hostels, including 3 mega hostels. There are separate hostels for girls and boys. There is a good library which has lots of books on all the engineering topics. There is a nearby health centre solely for the NITC staff members and students.
Faculty: The faculty members in our college are highly qualified and professionally experienced. They are highly helpful in solving problems. The course curriculum is designed by highly qualified teachers, and hence it is well-curated for higher studies and the GATE exam. This curriculum makes students industry-ready.
Other: Biotechnology is a highly relevant course in the current situation. With the looming pandemic, it has vital importance to develop new ways to thwart any diseases and develop the medical world.

South India best fests TATHVA and RAGAM.
Placements: This course is good and interesting. Only few companies come here for Bio technology. But the students can also apply for CS jobs. The maximum package offered here for BT is 6 Lacs per annum. It is a bit difficult for bio technology student to get placed in here.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good. The classrooms are having projectors. The hostels are good and having Wi-Fi facilities. The canteen food is good. Mess food is bit difficult to adjust for another state people. The library is containing good collection of books and study rooms are also available.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful. The students who seek will be benefited easily. The students first need to open and feel free to ask their doubts. If not they can mail sir about their doubts. There are labs also for the students to practice. It will make students industry ready.
Other: There are sports available. Students can participate in Inter NIT also. There will be two fests. One is technical fest "TATHVA" and another is cultural fest "RAGAM". .

Other: The campus is one of the best you can get. But biotechnology is not something which even the college is proud. There is lot to improve in that side. Faculties won't care much about you inside the college and it's totally up to you to build your career. According to me, biotechnology will be better in research institutes rather than NIT.

Other: It is a college of national importance where people from different regions come and study. You get to interact with the cream of the country. The atmosphere here is very conducive in terms of academics and then one can indulge in various club activities. If you are a good participant, you can get a club membership also. Coming to the placements, they are decent enough. The weather and food are fine. The faculty over here is very interactive. They are very strict in the marking and attendance issues but on the whole, they are good. If you are a performer everything is easy for you. On the other hand, if you can’t then people are there to help you out. Coming to the facilities one expects, I will say the college is on the back foot. We don’t have Wi-Fi and there is a curfew timing for girls, but that is under consideration for extension. The college has good and decent infrastructure and the campus is very green and open. Once you are adjusted to the environment and peers, you actually don't feel homesick. Rather, one starts enjoying every part of it. The best thing is you get to learn a lot of things. The administration is sluggish in a way. The connectivity of the place is good by the rail route and by air too.
