Shiksha is reporting live from a NIFT test centre at Anand Vihar where 800 students are taking NIFT Entrance Exam 2017.
NIFT had changed the test pattern of GAT exam this year but most of the students Shiksha spoke to shared that the test pattern for CAT was a little different from previous years’ papers whereas difficulty level of GAT exam was the same. Also, most students felt that overall the exam was much easier as compared to past years’ papers.
Difficulty Level of NIFT CAT & GAT 2017
Majority of the students came out of the test centre with big smiles as NIFT exam 2017 was very easy for them. Aryan Aggarwal, a student of Delhi Police Public School shared, “Exam was fine. CAT was quite difficult, GAT was very easy”. When asked to elaborate on the pattern of each section of the exam, Aryan said, “GAT had logical reasoning, mental ability and basic Maths questions whereas in CAT we had to design things as per the questions asked. NIFT CAT was more difficult because drawing is my weaker part. GAT was very easy for me”
Contrary to Aryan, Ria Sharma of Ramjas School, Pusa Road said, “NIFT exam was nice. CAT was simpler than GAT. In CAT exam we had to draw a scene of traffic light, make comparisons between balanced and unbalanced things and design a t-shirt. NIFT GAT exam had questions on Logical Reasoning and English. Also, there was GK in the paper which was not related to fashion. It was general GK and Current Affairs”.
Many students felt that although the questions asked were easy but they could have performed better if they had more time. “My exam went really well but it was bit lengthy. General Knowledge part was a little difficult for me. Otherwise it was good”, shared Priyanka Rao, Lotus Valley International School. When asked about the questions she attempted in NIFT Entrance Exam, Priyanka said that all questions asked in CAT exam were “related to colouring and depiction and there were no questions to draw and sketch. GAT was 50% English and it had GK questions”. Talking about the marking scheme she revealed that “In CAT there were two questions of 30 marks each and one question was of 40 marks”.
As per Ganga International School, Rohtak Road’s student Shivam NIFT exam 2017 was fine. On being asked how difficult or easy the entrance exam was for him, he said, “My point of view is that there is no difficulty level. It was easy for me. Three questions were there in CAT, one was on a street play while in the others I was asked to design a t-shirt and depict balanced and unbalanced. In GAT there was an English comprehension passage and Maths questions”.
“Exam was easy. Nothing was difficult if you have studied”, said Manmeet Kaur, a student of GNPS Punjabi Bagh. She further shared that for her, GAT paper was easier than CAT, “I didn’t practice too much for CAT so it was comparatively more difficult then GAT for me”.
Poorvangi Chopra of Amity International School and Sanjana Pawa, Dewan Public School were quoted as saying, “We did not take any coaching and still found the exam to be fine but we heard others say that it was really very simple, especially the General Ability”. They further revealed that in the GAT exam simple questions were asked related to Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning and English passages. Talking about the difficulty level of the exam, they said, “CAT was more difficult because we couldn’t predict what would come. In General Ability we still had an idea about what would be asked”.
NIFT Entrance Exam 2017 Pattern as Compared to Past Years’ Papers
Students felt that the test pattern of NIFT CAT 2017 was different from that of past years’ question papers. As per Poorvangi and Sanjana, NIFT CAT test paper was very different because “we have not seen such a pattern in previous years’. The questions were not on sketching and drawing but on pictorial representation of opposites and everything. GAT was pretty much the same”.
Confirming the same, Manmeet said that although most of the NIFT paper pattern was the same but “there were some changes. In previous years’ papers there was always a question on logo but this year the question asked was on t-shirt design”.
