Aspirants are advised to practice similar types of questions and thereafter, devise a plan to manage time well during their NIFT entrance exam, so that they can complete their exam on time. The NTA will conduct the NIFT 2026 exam in the second week of February. The exam is expected to be conducted in a centre-based mode across 82 cities in India. The candidate can select their choice of NIFT exam city at the time of filling out the application form.

Here we bring you sample questions that you can practice to prepare for the GAT section of the NIFT 2026 exam.

Q:   Who is eligible for NIFT Kolkata admission?
A:

NIFT Kolkata eligibility criteria vary depending on the programme selected by the students. The institute accepts candidates on an entrance basis, however it is important that students qualify for the minimum qualification set by the institute as well. For NIFT Kolkata UG admissions, the student must not exceed 24 years (29 years for SC/ ST/ PWD category students) of age as of August 1 of the year of admission. Similarly, for NIFT Kolkata PG admissions, students must complete graduation from a recognised university.

Q:   Is admission to NIFT Kangra entrance based or merit-based?
A:

Admission to NIFT Kangra is entrance based for the UG and PG programmes. 

NIFT Kangra admits students on the basis of entrance and other admission rounds.
Step 1: Applicants must first pass the "written test," also referred to as the NIFT entrance exam.
Stage 2: Candidates who made it through the first round take the situation test. The overall outcomes of both phases are examined in order to make the choice.

The NIFT entrance exam, sometimes referred to as the "written test," is the first requirement for candidates seeking a master's degree or a UG degree. Successful applicants undergo in-person interviews following the screening process. Candidates are selected by summing up their performances in various rounds.

Q:   What is the selection process for NIFT Shillong BDes course?
A:

To register for the admission test, applicants for NIFT Shillong must go to the institutes official website. Candidates' performance in the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) entrance test, which consists of the General Ability Test (GAT) and the Creative Ability Test (CAT), determines their admission to the NIFT Delhi BDes programme. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on their CAT/GAT test results must next show up for the Situation Test, which is administered by NIFT in order to be admitted to the B.Des programme.

Q:   Is BFTech admission at NIFT Kolkata entrance-based?
A:

Yes, NIFT Kolkata BFTech admission is based on entrance exam score. The institute shortlists students on the basis of score secured by them in the NIFT Entrance Exam General Ability Test (GAT) section. Students who have passed Class 12 or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised board are eligible to apply for the course. Interested students can visit the official website of National Institute of Fashion Technology Kolkata to know more about the course.

Q:   How many questions are asked in NIFT GAT?
A:

The exam pattern for NIFT GAT varies from one course to another. The total number of questions asked in NIFT GAT is mentioned below: BDes: 100 questions, BFTech: 150 questions, MDes: 120 questions, MFTech: 150 questions, MFM: 150 questions. Note that the GAT or the General Ability Test will be conducted in a computer-based mode. Questions will be objective-type. The GAT paper for the B. Des and M.Des programs will be of 120 minutes. However, the GAT paper for the B.FTech, M.FTech, and MFM courses will be for 180 minutes.

Q:   Can I take admission in NIFT Delhi BDes without NIFTEE?
A:

No, the admission criteria for the BDes programme is entrance-based. NIFT Delhi BDes course admission is granted based on applicants performance in the NIFT Entrance Exam. Candidates shortlisted based on exam score are called for the personal interview round followed counselling. The students looking for direct admissions are advised to contact the admission office.
